Perfect World Socialism
Juliana, you make a very good point. I would like to comment on your statement about government interference. In a perfect world, if things ran smoothly, free market capitalism would work wonderfully and there would be no need for government involvement. I would also argue that in a perfect world socialism would work wonderfully because everyone would follow the government. The fact of the matter is that we live in a fallen world full of sin. The books we are reading right now are perfect world scenarios. You do make a good point. Capitalism rewards large production and greed and makes greed benefit everyone. Capitalism seems like a better option than socialism. But we still need government involvement to protect us from business such as the

For the United States I would recommend the free enterprise system. If we were to have that we would be able to see the changes that it makes. With socialism it doesn’t motivate people to work hard and make a living because it is divided among the community where you live. If some people worked and others didn’t the money would still be given to the people who don’t work. I believe that the free enterprise system would be best because it’s based on the principle of individual rights. With the free enterprise, also known as capitalism, the government has limited control over business, which lets business’ compete. It lets people choose what kind of work they want to do and where they want to work. It lets people decide what they want to do with their money if they want to put it into a retirement account or in the stock market. There are only a few disadvantages of Capitalism that I see. There are barriers between people in terms of how much wealth they have or how much money they make. Also that government control is so limited that it lets a few businesses to dominate their industry and then they become able to make the rules for their industry. I would definitely advocate the idea of capitalism over socialism any time.…

A perfect utopian society will never exist, but key components to everyone's day to day lives could help them live happily and comfortably. A utopia is a community or state in which everything in it is perfect. This community has perfect and desirable qualities which focuses on the ideals of the community members, pleasing all of their wants. A perfect utopian society in my eyes is one with no danger or fears, living comfortably without any worries for money or resources, and getting along with each other. This society will never exist because of people who do not believe in a peaceful lifestyle. Although a perfect utopian society is hard to achieve because of disobedient people, it could happen by having the resources to help its members to live well and…

    Market vs Demand Economy

Market vs. Demand. Now it is time for the final comparison between the two major economic systems which happen to be big ones in the world today – the capitalist free market economy and the communist/socialist command-based one. We shall go about this comparison by going through a list of basic topics and questions required for setting up an economy, and provide the typical demand and the typical market response for them – in the end, that is the true way to fully comprehend both systems. The first question that needs to be answered in the creation of an economy is "what shall be produced?" Every individual has a certain amount of needs and a certain amount of desires, which they are all in the end willing to work for – in a capitalist economy, the government leaves the meeting of these needs to the actual people. The theory is that anyone who wants to succeed in a capitalist world, driven by Adam Smith's "invisible hand", will eventually discover these needs that need to be met by the people and sell them, mainly for the good of the entrepreneur himself, but ideally (you'll hear that word a lot during this comparison) for the good of the consumers and the employees as well – basically, if you know that people want a certain product, you know that people will buy that certain product, so you can guarantee your own success as well as the fulfillment of those consumers in need (which is usually a secondary motive). Demand economies, on the other hand, do not believe in such private profiting – rather, they assign a branch of the government as a "central planning committee" which decides what goods and services the people are entitled to. In a perfect world, this would work perfectly, and everyone would end up getting what they wanted – unfortunately, in more cases than not this central planning committee is too disconnected from the laborers they are providing for to know exactly what is in demand and what is not needed – if, for…

    Capitalism vs Socialism

Policy is a very difficult question that concerns all people in the world. There are many countries with different policies, but the political war between socialism and capitalism worries most governments in the world. Socialism is not as popular as capitalism, because this system lost its great popularity last century. The main idea of socialism is working for some group of people. Consequently, if you work this way you cannot be an entrepreneur nor have your own business. Socialistic government will never allow it. In such policy a person cannot be regarded as hard working, if this person works for him/herself, because someone’s work is only appreciated when this person works in some group and this work is directed to society’s benefit. Even though many people can say that capitalistic way of living, is very cruel because one of the rules of capitalism is “the most powerful will survive”, capitalism is a system that gives more freedom to people and day by day is increasing its popularity. So, there is a widespread opinion, that it is much better to live in the country where the gap between poor and rich people is sharply noticeable, than to know that a person will never differ from the mass…

The United States of America was founded upon the principles of freedom and equality for all, and it is essential that these values continue to be reflected in this nation’s economic policy. America’s founding fathers looked towards the free enterprise system, or Capitalism, in order to preserve economic freedom in the United States. Unfortunately, opposition to Capitalism has been growing at a rapid rate over the last decade, and everyday more and more Americans are beginning to support the transition to Socialism. Supporters of Socialism aim to eliminate poverty and income inequality that is supposedly the result of Capitalism. While Communism and Socialism can provide immediate aid to struggling individuals, Capitalism is the only economic…

Capitalism compared to Socialism is the best format for the economy. When the two are looked at side by side they both have strong pros and cons. When looked at in a functional format to the economy and the real way that they would work, I believe, that capitalism would provide the best options. The concept of capitalism is a good way to help develop the economy, especially in a large economy such as the United States. The competition that is created by the capitalism boosts the economy and stimulates growth. Capitalism is the best way to go about the economy.…

Capitalism has proven to be the the premier economic system chosen by some of the most prominent leaders in history. Winston Churchill once said “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries”(Churchill,1945). Socialism is appealing to the present generation and society as it provides a promise of equality amongst all citizens. What many fail to consider is that the equality promised by socialism only gives equal misery and tyranny. Capitalism is loosely defined as a free market system where the supply and demand of the country is derived from the private property of the owner. On the other hand, socialism consists of public ownership in the name of production. While…

How Much Government is needed in the free capitalism arena? Should we expand our faith in free market capitalism, or do we need government intervention in each and every aspect of business economy? The role of government just considered is to do something that the market cannot do for itself, namely, to determine, arbitrate, and enforce the rules of the game. Railroads, Parks, Highways are an excellent example. A good society requires that its members agree on the general conditions that will govern relations among them. The basic roles of government in a free society is to provide a means whereby we can modify the rules, to mediate differences among us on the meaning of the rules, and to enforce compliance with the rules. According to Adam Smith, self-interest (not selfishness), property rights and division of labor are three important interrelated pillars of economic growth.…

The debate over capitalism and socialism has been going on for very long time. Is capitalism superior to socialism, or is socialism superior to capitalism? This question is frequently brought up and there have been many arguments about it. There are many people who think capitalism is the best economic system, while many others think there is nothing better than a socialist nation. Though some people think socialism is good, today, capitalism is the superior system and America is one example of its on-going success. Capitalism is good for industrialized nations like America because, as seen in America, there is low unemployment, low interest rates, high standards of living, and companies are using technology and creating high quality products.…

The first subsection of economic freedom to be examined is business freedom. According to the Index of Economic Freedom, business freedom is, “a quantitative measure of the ability to start, operate, and close a business that represents the overall burden of regulation as well as the efficiency of government in the regulatory process.” Simply put, it is one’s ability to own and/or operate a business of their own freely. By freely, it means without too many constricting laws and rules enforced by the government. In a socialist society, this simply is not possible. Socialism emphasizes equality among all therefore it would be impossible for everyone to be equal if few owned large industries within the society. This is not to say that socialist societies live without businesses, rather the individuals living within this type of community cannot freely own a business. The responsibility falls to the government in order to keep the country economically stable while still not being driven by monetary gains. Because of this individuals businesses tend to be difficult to establish and even more challenging to close these enterprises. Contrarily, capitalist communities are extraordinarily free- in the business sense. This is because a capitalist society promotes hard work and innovations in order to create a stronger economy. It would be impossible for a capitalist society to survive without a plethora of businesses. This is because in a capitalistic society, businesses are not largely owned by the government therefore without an abundance of individual businesses the economy would weaken dramatically. As such, entrepreneurship is an ever growing field in which people are free to promote and share their ideas and products with the world. Organizations in these societies are easier to institute and, because of the abundance…

It encourages economic competition and provides incentive for productivity and efficiency. The most extreme or radical system of capitalism is radical capitalism. Not all capitalistic systems work either, and this is an example of one. There are no regulations over people making the government useless. That leads to there not even being a government, which is also called anarchy. Classic liberal capitalism is the next the level. Originally, this is what the United States had. The government does exist but is limited. People enjoy many economic freedoms and liberties. Also, people are held accountable for their economic decisions. Their success or failure is dependent upon their efficiency. That is what I call incentive. Adam Smith in his book The Wealth of Nations described a capitalistic system like this. He thought that government should be limited to national defense, providing and enforcing law and order, and other necessary public tasks like education and public transportation. The last level of capitalism is state capitalism. This is what the United Sates has now. It is the closest capitalistic system to socialism. Most businesses are privately owned by citizens, but the government intervenes in economic decisions. When the government starts intervening more and more, that is when it becomes socialism. Capitalism offers a peaceful means of exchange. People can buy, sell, and trade at their own free will. That is…

    Globalization In America

Capitalism does not promote freedoms and equality for all, but exactly the opposite. Inequality and economic slavery are the fruits of capitalism. The United States has spread its inequality across the globe allowing for the largest portion of the worlds wealth to ever be held by so few people. We have used capitalism and our armies to dominate the world. Could globalization and free trade ever promote greater freedoms that we have yet seen in the world? Only a world working together for the benefit of all and not the few could deliver the freedoms dreamed of by all. It will not come from armies nor will it come from capitalism. Capitalism has proven that it solely supports the few rich in the world who control the majority through economic and military might. The only way to ever right the wrongs that we have committed would be to cause our capitalist system to crumble under the weight of its greed, because only then amongst the turmoil can real change take place. The world needs a system that promotes the welfare of all not just the few and the only way to do that is to write a constitution that safeguards the people right to all those things essential to life. A system that limits the slice of the pie one can have is needed, because if this is not done then the more pie one person has the less there is…

Imagine a country where the goods and services that are produced are based on the market. The market decides who gets them and how the economy grows. This is called a Free Market which is also known as Capitalism. In capitalistic countries citizens have sole ownership of their land or businesses. Profit is the motivating factor in this economy. The citizens are more willing to work due to the retention of profits from their businesses. Corporations are able to issue bonuses and rewards for those with high productivity. Businesses can establish themselves or trade with other nations for more profit. There is limited government input in a free market economy. Businesses compete with each other giving the consumer a wide variety of goods and services at a low competitive price. The market is determined by supply and demand. The citizens in a free market have the ability to…

That is a tricky question, and I believe the answer lies somewhere in between the two. The struggle is to regulate but not over regulate the people. People are greedy and in capitalist economy will not give to the poor. That’s were socialism looks better, but then the government is to power full and human nature can affect the government just as it can a civilian. I believe my vote goes for democratic capitalism with less government and a competitive market.…
