Perfect environment, and why it is
Being just seventeen years old, I have been told from a young age to be happy and enjoy these moments of youth before the hectic adult life soon occupies me. Whether it was partying at friends’ birthdays in middle school or riding roller coasters at Disney world, I began to miss those days of fun and care free after choosing such an occupied and studious path. Today, even the shortest of vacations give me a peace of mind, from snuggling up in my bed even as my alarm continues to ring on a Sunday morning to browsing the Internet for useless gadgets that I would probably never use in my everyday life. However, the ideal place that I could describe being perfectly at peace would not be in the church I volunteer at or in school where I have my friends. Instead, it would have to be in the lines of the soccer field, and playing for my dreams and passions. The moist ground covered in the early morning dew and the ball at my feet dribbling passing and kicking. I live for these moments each and every day. This is the time when life becomes surreal and all my worries are set behind me. Ever since my Parents had gotten a divorce, traveling and flying has become a rarity for my family and money had to be saved up for college payments. Then again, it does not mean I do not miss traveling any more than the next family member. In the past, almost every vacation opportunity we had, our family would pack our bags and schedule road trips to various cities. Sometimes we would visit our cousins up in Pennsylvania, while other times we would drive somewhere extravagant, such as Florida or North Carolina. Sure, packing my clothes, being nagged to wake up for the big day, and the anticipation of arriving at our destination may have been a pain in the rear, but in the end, it was all worth the hassle. With my headphones plugged in playing alternative music, I would stare outside my window and scan the horizon as lush farm fields, crystal blue lakes, and neon lit buildings would all fly

The purpose of Peter Jon Lindberg’s article Ode to the Annual Repeat Summer Vacation is for the reader to understand why he returns to the same vacation destination year after year instead of traveling somewhere new. Lindberg’s article has strategies that start from the beginning to the end that help with this. If Lindberg wouldn’t have used the tools he had availed to him, his article would have been confusing and would loose the reader. However, since Lindberg used the tools his article was a very successful, easy to follow, relatable, and held my attention from beginning to end.…

There is absolutely nothing better than spending a week on vacation with your friends. Last summer, I went to the Free Lutheran Youth (FLY) convention. FLY is a large get-together where Lutheran teenagers from around the country meet and worship. Abby Ator, Lance Bengochea, Sierra Machart, Mariah Machart, Emma Pederson, Bryan Pederson and I go to Bethel Lutheran Church; we decided to fundraise and attend the FLY convention. This year was the first time I have participated; the experience literally changed my outlook on life. The week I spent in Estes Park, Colorado, brought me closer to ten people who I never imagined would become my close friends.…

Traveling, meeting new people, hearing interesting ideas, and understanding other cultures are all important measures of success in the life of a millennial. No one would argue that any of these goals are deleterious, in fact, most would agree that they are lofty goals. When people undergo novel experiences, they grow on a personal level. Traveling opens eyes to see the true scope of the world. Meeting new people facilitates the growth of empathy and patience. New, and often contradicting, ideas hone critical thinking skills and challenge presumptions. Becoming familiar with other cultures allows young people to understand how they fit into the global spiderweb of…

Have you ever been to some place that was more of where you wanted to be but also didn’t want to be at some point of time? Try taking a vacation somewhere you have never been. When I was fifteen years old, I went on a vocational trip to Tuscan, Arizona with my favorite uncle and his amazingly cool wife. We attended many different things and went to many different places. I also got to ride on the tall mountain which at that point was a cool thing. There were some things that made me unhappy and some that made me dramatically excited.…

This summer I went Princess Anne, Maryland for a six-week to a science bridge program and this was my first time ever being away from my parents and this was difficult because I depend so much on my parents and being that they were not there was going to be challenging. When I applied for the program I had high expectations that it would be a great experience for me and that I would learn new information about my major and also have the chance to meet new friends all while being away from home. For me being so far from home was such a challenge being that Usually I with either my parents or brothers, so when I was away from my family I was home sick while I was there. I would call my family several times throughout the day while I was away from home. I was not able to enjoy myself while I was in Maryland because I could only reflect about being back with my family. I did not like my experience so much that would find simple issues to be upset about, such as the music played on the vans or how fast they would drive the vans going to field trips.…

I live in a country full of rich resources. Our weather is like a bittersweet lotion that replenishes the skin. People from all over the world come to my land for these things called "vacations". Vacations bring in nothing but good memories, smiles, and family. A vacation is a fairytale here in Columbia. The beautiful landscapes are just a pinch of reality that are on the brochures, websites, and posters. Sometimes when I look at these Americanized pictures of Columbia I wish I was there. The true story of Columbia starts in the city of Bogata located in the mountains. I am a young girl. I will not disclose my name or age because what I'm about to tell you about my culture and land are hands on things my soul has been through; which may upset…

Douglas E. Ray* UCH of a dean’s job involves reaching out to various communities. We reach out to and build relationships with alumni and donors for needed financial support. We reach out to and build relationships with members of the bench and the bar to help expand employment opportunities for our students. We reach out to and build relationships with members of the University community to ensure cooperation and access to resources. We reach out to and build relationships with our students. This essay is about reaching out to and building relationships with our most important communities: those who work within the law school. In these difficult economic times, most law schools face the challenge of doing more with less. Budgets have been reduced, staffing levels have fallen, and there are limits on how much we want to raise tuition in light of the economic conditions our students face. To do well in this environment and to provide the most effective legal education and student services we can, we must make identifying and fostering the “people potential” of our institutions a high priority. This essay is about treating people the way you would want to be treated and setting a tone of professionalism and mutual respect. Although most of the discussion deals with professional and hourly staff relations, many of the principles also apply to relations with faculty and students. Some of these ideas may seem simple, but our fast-paced work environments and complex schedules make it very easy to overlook them. I think they are more important than most people realize. As a former labor lawyer and labor arbitrator,…

Growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone, you began to lock yourself in, and may forget who you are as a person. As for me my mind was set that I wouldn’t let that happen, but I had anxiety about traveling far from my small town. I decided it was time to break that anxiety to take a trip, to a place far away from my small town I call home, that place being called New York. This trip is what changed my mind about traveling and my outlook on life. I was simple minded, never thought outside of the box. I discovered a new place that indirectly triggered my outlook on life, and opened my mind! I suffer from anxiety among many other things, so I was bound to have anxiety about going to a place I have never been to before right? Once I stepped off that plane, I had felt like I had seen a new world. The best part about it was, I had no feeling of anxiety for once in my life! If I had never gone on this trip I wouldn’t have known how to look at life and mold it into my own.…

Imagine getting away from the monotony of your everyday life. You can lie on the beach sipping a cool drink miles away from your worries of getting a paper done or helping a customer at work. You can be on top of a mountain overlooking beautiful lands that are different from your own backyard. Half of the class has taken a vacation less than five times in their lifetimes, but let’s face that most of those probably included those little family vacations to Disneyland. But, all of you said that you planned to travel someday. So, why not do it sooner than later? One of the reasons for not traveling that many of you put is not having time because of school or work. Also, one of your major concerns is budgeting. Between budgets and busy schedules, it is not always easy to set aside time and plan a getaway.…
