Riordan taught Greek myths for many years, but this time he was out of stories. We are introduced to Perseus “Percy” Jackson, a seemingly boring kid, with dyslexia and troubles making friends. An argument could be made that the first call was in the museum when he was attacked by the Fury, telling him to confess. Not a literal call, but rather a sign by fate that something is happening, the first touch of Percy with the world of the gods. I mean, the title of the chapter is literally “I Am Offered a Quest”. Not really much to explain there.…

The study of classical mythology is not a standardized, widespread component of education, and thus there is a gap in understanding of these references for many people. Percy Jackson, a teenager living in New York City, is the protagonist in this novel and embodies the Greek hero Perseus in his relationship with his mother and the quest on which he embarks. In “The Loss of the Creature,” Percy focuses on how one perceives something before actually witnessing it based on the opinions of others. The value of the place or idea is already preconceived due to the fact that we are so caught up in time that we overlook the entire experience as a whole. Or being that we are so focused on the option on an object from someone else, we miss the whole concept or what it’s true meaning or “beauty” as Percy state’s is. We lose the ability to make our own decisions because we base them off of someone else’s viewpoints. Using an example of a movie that I experienced shows Percy’s point.…

It is comprised of many steps that Odysseus has to overcome and battle through in order to achieve his final goal of reaching his home and his loved ones. From the Call to Adventure to the Freedom or Gift of living, Odysseus conquered them all. Although Telemachus has not yet met his father, it is almost as if they are journeying together, where the end of both of their journeys results in being reunited. Telemachus journeys from being a boy to becoming a man, while out in the sea Odysseus is battling Poseidon to return to the home that wife that he loves and the home he has left behind.…
