Percy Jackson II ; Reaction Paper
Percy, being the only known child of one of the big three gods, who is still alive, is being disturb by the fact that he might be the one who will either save Olympus or totally destroy it. While in the camp, Percy meets Tyson, his half-brother who is a Cyclops. Because of Tyson’s true nature, Percy becomesa little bit shameful of him. When their camp is later attacked by a traitor of their kind, they discover that thetree which protects the camp was poisoned. In order to keep the camp safe, Annabeth Chase, the daughter of Athena, finds out an answer. She discovers that the Golden Fleece can restore the tree back to life, so the camp’s director sends the daughter of Ares, Clarisse, to look for it while Percy, together with Annabeth, Grover and Tyson, decided to look for the fleece on their own. With the help of the Graeae Sisters, they reached Washington, D.C., and are able to know the coordinates to the island where the fleece can be found. Unfortunately, Luke ordered his men to capture Grover, and they did, because satyrs are naturally drawn to the fleece, thus, looking for it will be much easier for Luke. The remaining trio, Annabeth, Percy and Tyson then meet Hermes, Luke’s father. He told them that Luke is in a cruise ship, called the Princess Andromeda, in the Atlantic Ocean. Hermes asks Percy to convince Luke to stop because it’s not yet too late. Armed with magical gifts from Hermes, the trio take a Hippocampus,a mythical creature which is a half-horse, half-fish, to follow the cruise ship. They end up being captured by Luke’s soldiers, but still manage to escape using the magical gifts. Eventually, they reach the Sea of Monsters which the humans called the Bermuda Triangle and is swallowed alive by Charybdis. They meet Clarisse in its stomach and as one group they are able to get out of it and reach Circe’s Island, an abandoned amusement park above the lair of Polyphemus, where they save Grover and acquire the Golden Fleece before being threatened by

Instead of simply being gifted with magic, Percy is the son of a Greek God. His friends aren’t mere mortals with spell books. They are Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr. The section of school that hates him isn’t the old home of the series’ big evil, but the most competitive section of students, the children of the God of War, Ares. And instead of Quidditch, Percy finds himself participating in a chariot race. The world of The Lightning Thief brings Greek mythology into the modern world. Who knew that Mount Olympus was located on floor 1000 of the Empire State Building? Or that the Greek gods are responsible for the spread of Western civilization? Unbeknownst to us, we walk among monsters who scour the Earth hoping to find the children of Gods before the Gods do in order to eliminate their competition.…

In “The Loss of the Creature,” Percy focuses on how one perceives something before actually witnessing it based on the opinions of others. The value of the place or idea is already preconceived due to the fact that we are so caught up in time that we overlook the entire experience as a whole. Or being that we are so focused on the option on an object from someone else, we miss the whole concept or what it’s true meaning or “beauty” as Percy state’s is. We lose the ability to make our own decisions because we base them off of someone else’s viewpoints. Using an example of a movie that I experienced shows Percy’s point.…
