Percy And Annabeth Comparison
Sometimes, even in the darkest times, love will find you. In the fantastic book by Rick Riordan, House of Hades, the two main characters, Percy and Annabeth, fall into the depths of Tartarus together. Throughout the book, we see them struggle through the murky abyss to the Doors of Death, while their friends make their way towards them in Greece. Both sides must be closed in order to stop Gaea. The story does end with Percy and Annabeth completing their journey safely. During the course of the book, I see two themes that shine through- love can overpower fear, and sometimes, you must face your fears in order to save your friends. Throughout the book, we see Percy and Annabeth overcome the fear of Tartarus with their love for each other. Even …show more content…
For example, on pages 147 through 151, Frank faces his fears and steps out of his comfort zone in order to kill every monster in Venice. “ ‘But you faced your fear,my son. You did what you had to do’ ” (Page 152). By killing all of the monsters to save Hazel, he proves that he will do anything to save his friends, including facing his fears. Even though he has no idea how he will survive, he pushed on, and the results rewarded him with the tool he needs to cure Nico and Hazel. This theme also shines through on page 342, where Piper feels useless and scared. Despite these feelings, she uses her charmspeak- which causes people to obey her words, and wakes up the ship’s automated metal dragon figurine. By doing this, Piper saves her friends. The dragon blows fire, which causes the goddess attacking them to retreat. Throughout the book, we learn that Piper feels insecure about herself. She feels as if the other demigods outshine her, because they all have amazing abilities. Now, she overcomes her fears and insecurities and defeats a goddess, saving her friends and loved ones. All in all, the theme that you need to overcome your fears really shines through in this book.

In conclusion, there are two main themes that are prevalent in the book House of Hades by Rick Riordan. The first one is that love overpowers fear, and the second one is that sometimes you need to push away your fears. Throughout the book,

Percy is not just like Perseus because their names sound alike. They are alike in other ways as well. Like Perseus, Percy was saved because he had a god watching over him. In “ The Great Heroes Before the Trojan War” it says, “ But Perseus was saved from his folly. Two great gods were watching over him.”(Hamilton 145). This same thing happened to Percy when he was battling Anabeth. She had beaten him up pretty badly and Percy had lay there…

We all face many challenges and setbacks in life, but it is whether we deal with them properly, that decides whether we move on. If we don’t overcome our challenges and setbacks, we could be dwelling on the one problem for a long time, because the longer we leave a problem to grow, the harder it becomes to deal with. Despite the fact that characters encounter challenges and setbacks throughout the whole novel, its overall message is quite optimistic. The four main challenges which are included in the novel, include death, pain, suffering, and separation. Erich and Vinnie faced the biggest challenges and setbacks out of all the characters in the novel. But eventually, they both summoned up the courage to confront their problems and move on.…

References to Greek mythology pervade much of popular Western culture, and although some allusions may go unnoticed for those without a background in mythology. The study of classical mythology is not a standardized, widespread component of education, and thus there is a gap in understanding of these references for many people. One book that sought to popularize Greek mythology amongst young students was Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, which topped the children’s bestsellers lists just under ten years ago. Percy Jackson, a teenager living in New York City, is the protagonist in this novel and embodies the Greek hero Perseus in his relationship with his mother and the quest on which he embarks. While any competent reader can understand the…

He is also funny “With great power... comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later”. Making funny remark and one liner makes him a funny character in general, this funny one liner was said after he obtained the curse of Achilles and they were outside the underworld. In “The Loss of the Creature,” Percy focuses on how one perceives something before actually witnessing it based on the opinions of others. The value of the place or idea is already preconceived due to the fact that we are so caught up in time that we overlook the entire experience as a whole. Or being that we are so focused on the option on an object from someone else, we miss the whole concept or what it’s true meaning or “beauty” as Percy state’s is. We lose the ability to make our own decisions because we base them off of someone else’s viewpoints. Using an example of a movie that I experienced shows Percy’s point.…

In the song “Car Radio” by Twenty One Pilots, there is a lyric that says “I find over the course of our human existence, one thing consists of consistence, and it's that we're all battling fear.” In this quote it talks about how through our human existence we have had to deal with fear. Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett rewrote The Diary of Anne Frank to make it a play. In this play, eight people go into hiding in a secret annex to protect themselves from the Nazi’s during The Holocaust. The strongest theme in the play is, when you are in difficult conditions, being positive and finding light in the situation will help you to survive. This theme is well supported throughout the play.…

In addition to the major themes of the book, another theme would be the power of words. This greatly impacts Frank when he gives his first speech. He did not consider it successful because the kids were not listening, they were critiquing him, and they did not care about what he had to say. Nevertheless, he received letters from the students thanking him for coming and demonstrating their appreciation for the speech. Frank did not believe they were truly expressing the gratitude he thought they were saying, rather he thought it was just an assignment the teacher had them do. This impression remained unaffected until he saw a letter that read, “I bet you had a long, boring ride back to Philly” (Meeink, 2010 p.248) At that moment he realized…
