Percocet Case Study
No I would not diagnose Mrs. Anderson with a substance use disorder. Percocet is an opioid. Under the opioid use disorder the DSM-V states that you must have to significant impairment or distress. Mrs Anderson. Mrs. Anderson states she only take opioids when it acts up and until she feels better. The DSM-V states that the drug is usually taken in larger amounts or over a longer period than it was intended. This is the only symptom that I noticed. Acetaminophen is a common analgesic used to treat mild pain. We synthesized acetaminophen by reacting p-aminophenol and acetic anhydride. The amine group on the p-aminophenol reacted with the center oxygen atom on the acetic anhydride to form an amide. We reacted 0.210g of p-aminophenol with 0.240ml of acetic anhydride in the presence of heat, and then cooled the solution in an ice bath until crystals formed. The solid acetaminophen was filtered from the solution and then subjected to a recrystallization using a 50:50 water-ethanol solvent. 0.1484g of crude acetaminophen was measured and after purification 0.0669g of pure acetaminophen was collected. A percent yield of 23% was calculated from our theoretical and actual yield. The melting point…

You take a quick ride to the corner store and grab a bottle of Tylenol™, toss a handful back with some bottled water and return to work. 30 minutes later you are keeled over with stomach pains and feelings of nausea, chills and fever all at the same time. This miserable experience is the onset of acetaminophen overdose. There are many signs that a person can look for when trying to determine that they are in need of help. Requesting prescriptions from multiple doctors is very common as well as faking an injury just to obtain more pain medication (Pain-pill addiction: What's the risk? 2008). Taking pain medication to deal with other problems, such as anxiety or stress is also common (Pain-pill addiction: What's the risk? 2008). Additionally, the usage of other medications and alcohol is a common sign to look for (Pain-pill addiction: What's the risk? 2008). One form of treatment is taking another pill commonly known as Soboxone (New drug treats the new face of addiction. 2008). This pill can be taken from home on a daily basis. Follow-ups from the doctors are needed to ensure that the person is not abusing the medication (New drug treats the new face of addiction. 2008). Methadone is another option when receiving treatment. A person has to go to a clinic each day to receive this form (New drug treats the new face of addiction. 2008). The patient must drink or take the pill in front of a person to ensure that it will not get out onto the streets and be abused (New drug treats the new face of addiction. 2008). If there is someone out there that may be in need of help they can go to their family doctor and discuss the options and outcomes of this problem. When speaking with the doctor it is very important that the patient is very honest and open about their problem. The doctor will address the situation and go from there. There are counseling programs that a patient can enroll in so they have someone to talk to about their history and problems. Often times, the counselor themselves at one point in time was an addict of something. Another option is checking into an in-patient rehab facility. There the addict will be able to ensure that all…

I believe that television can influence children in good and bad ways. Depending of what types of shows and channels the kids are watching it could actually be a good thing. If a child is only allowed to watch kids shows, and kids’ channels they won’t learn anything bad. If children are just watching shows like Dora the Explorer and Jake’s Neverland Island, they aren’t going to learn anything bad; they may actually learn things that are beneficial. With Dora the Explorer they learn problem solving and also get introduced to some Mexican culture and Spanish. If you were to let a child watch adult shows though, it may not turn out very well. For instance, if you let a little girl grow up watching shows like Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant, they grow up thinking that the way these girls act is ok, because hey, if they’re on TV, they must be doing something right.…
