Peer Tutor Reflective Essay
The four most important aspects of my role as a peer tutor would be showing leadership, communication, flexibility and having a positive impact on students. Each of these aspects are important and all contribute to my role as a peer tutor, without any of them I don't think I would perform as well in the classroom. Showing leadership and having a positive impact on others have changed over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester my leadership skills weren't as inclined as they currently are. Over the course of the semester, I have gained confidence and demonstrated leadership and initiative while peer tutoring. Having a positive attitude is important when wanting to keep students motivated to do their best. I understand that the attitude I have while peer tutoring will impact others and the environment of the classroom. When students feel encouraged in the classroom or are working in a positive environment, they usually they perform better which leads to success. I have used a positive attitude to assist the students and teachers in my class because a good mood rubs off on others and allows themselves to feel positive, which increases motivation and drive. While peer tutoring, I am always honest with students usually when it comes to what they are doing right, and where they could improve. I believe honesty is a strength because by providing honesty, I will hopefully influence others to be honest and encourage a friendly work environment. I have used honesty to assist students in my class because giving them honest feedback helps them improve in the future. When you are honest with students about their work, they tend to show more respect and be honest with you in the future. Honesty has assisted the placement supervisor in my class because the teachers can help students better if I honestly inform them of their progress and how they are performing. Overall, these strengths have helped me in the past and I hope to use them in the future to continue to grow as a peer
