Peer Group Interview
Chances are pretty high that once you’ve settled into a secure job, you have no intention of leaving it any time soon. There are, however, certain situations that can put the idea of seeking a new job front and center in your mind.

1. Significant social gatherings with your peer group.
Attending a social gathering where you’ll be among peers who are close in age and life experience can inspire a desire for change. For instance, you decide to attend your high school or college reunion. The reason you go is to catch up with old friends you knew back in the day, and you enjoy sharing a few laughs and some fond memories. As you share life stories, you can’t help but hear about career choices and successes others have had along the way.

A communication event I recently attended was "rush" for a sorority. It was a series of days where I met with all the different sororities. The whole point of this is to meet many different people to decide which sorority is for you. The event is focused around communicating with people so they can get to know you and you can get to know them. If you send the wrong message about yourself you may not be invited back the next day to see the people that you would like to see again. Also if the person you talk to in the sorority sends the wrong message to you, you may not want to go back and visit that sorority again. You could not be successful with something like this if you cannot communicate properly and if you…

The moment that signified my transfer into adulthood happened just recently. Since 8th grade, I have been a part of truly incredible academic-service organization called Beta Club. Beta Club has taught me the values of being a leader by serving others, and it is from this “servant's” mentality that has made me a better person. Moreover, it has given me countless leadership options as I served as my middle school Beta’s president. Then, I was elected as my high school’s chapter president, and this is where my moment of transition truly begins. Each year, the state Beta Club hosts a convention in Greensboro, where you can compete in events or run for state office. The state convention was like no other event I had participated in, and ever since I attended my first…

Andre, a socially mobile 2010 graduate of Wellborn University, has been enjoying a successful software sales career in New York City. When I arrived, I stepped out of my car for Andre to help me park (raised in Arizona, my parallel parking skills are null). He happily greeted me as he took my keys and moved my driver’s seat all the way back. Being well over 6’ tall, he towered over me. On our way to his apartment building he expressed his excitement for my association with Lori before directing me to stop in my tracks and look ahead. In front of me was an unobstructed view of The Statue of Liberty. He gleefully told me that the view from the apartment’s patio was one of the best in the city. I interviewed him in the lobby of his posh apartment…

For my diversity assignment, I chose to interview my classmate Annemarie Farina. I conducted my interview on February 5th in the Library at Pete’s Café. I first met Annemarie in my Foundations of Public Health class, when a few of us agreed to meet up to study. I wanted to interview Annemarie because although we met because of the same major, we have differences that are outside of the classroom. This is her second year at UNC Charlotte, and this is my first. We also differ in other things including race, ethnicity, and place of origin. She is an overall good person, and I thought it would be intriguing to find out more about her.…

Just picture yourself; you getting accepted to your dream school and not just that, but you were also given a full ride scholarship to your dream school for playing the sport you love. That’s the kind of big dreams Mariah Shankle has for when she leaves Keller Central High School. When Ms. Meador first assigned this peer interview, I really didn’t know who Mariah was or what she was like. However, by doing this peer interview, I got to find out who Mariah was and what her goals were for the future. As we were asking each other questions and replying with our answers, one answer that intrigued me from her was that she wanted to attend Baylor University, it’s because most people that choose to go to a school in Texas usually attend University of Texas in Austin. As soon as she told me about Baylor, I had a question already formed in my mind. Why, why Baylor? What was so special about Baylor to her? Her answer made complete sense once she told me. It’s because she wants to go to a school that has a good medical center so she can major in sports medicine and the best one for her is Baylor University. As she was telling me about Baylor University, just by watching her and the way she talks about it, I realized how passionate she was about it. Not only does she hope to get accepted to Baylor University, she hopes that she can get a scholarship from Baylor for volleyball. With this peer interview, I not only got to find out who Mariah Shankle was but I also made a new friend by doing this peer interview.…

For my interview I received valuable information that has helped me to understand more about post high school. The information helped me to find out what the biggest lesson that my mom learned after high school, which was to not try to grow up too fast. She told this to me because when she was my age all she wanted to do was to grow up and live on her own, only to then found out that the real world isn’t as spectacular as she presumed. Also she regrets leaving college for different reasons, one being that she could’ve made more more money and second she could’ve had less financial stress.…

I’ve only just recently began a new college experience after being out of school for many years. I have found it very helpful to become involved in group and individual student discussions and looking into joining college social clubs with mutual interests. My professors and advisors are very helpful and will remain that way as long as I take it upon myself to establish and to maintain ongoing communication with them. Things such as visiting…
