Lori, I truly enjoyed your interview response on Reverend Jennifer Beagle. I can agree with her statement on developing a ministry, “It’s a battle worth fighting, suit-up, buckle-up, and don’t doubt that God is in everything. Find God in every circumstance and view people as creations”. (Beagle, 2015) Just as the varying parts of the human body need each other to best accomplish its work, so the Body of Christ needs to function interdependently, like a team. (Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 12:12-27) God so designed the Church that it "grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work". (Eph. 4:16) Christian leaders are servants. Jesus specifically addresses servant leadership…

In order for a church to carry out its mission it needs effective leader/leadership. But what is leader/leadership? In spite all that has been said about leadership there is no universally accepted definition of a leader/leadership. Perhaps the next best definition of Christian leader is taken from The Making of a Leader by Bobby Clinton: “a person with God-given capacity and God-given responsibility who influences a group of followers toward God’s purposes for the group.”(p.127). In my own words this is someone who follows the example of Christ and does so in a way that influences others.…

My freshman year in high school, I decided to join Best Buddies. Best Buddies is a program where a high school student is paired with another student, who has an intellectual and developmental disability, in a one-to-one friendship. During my first year, I learned Best Buddies is not simply a club but a family. My second year of being a part of Best Buddies I began truly noticing a change in myself. Sophomore year I was paired with a girl one year younger than me named Carrie. She and I have become best friends and have now been buddies for the past three years. As I interacted with Carrie these past years, I began to realize disabilities do not hold people back, but that we hold ourselves back. Despite Carrie’s misfortune, she wears a smile…

For my observation paper, I was approved to attend the Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce’s (GABC) Town Hall meeting. The meeting, scheduled for 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Historic Dedrick-Hamilton House – located in a concentrated African American residential area of East Austin, was set to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the Chamber from a community perspective. As described on the GABC website, the meeting was an opportunity for chamber leadership to “hear and understand valuable feedback, which will help to build a stronger chamber”. The ultimate objective…
