If you are at the age of eight or older you are more prone to hip deformities. This could have led to surgeries and a longer recovery time. Mr. Dodrill was lucky enough to have been diagnosed early. He did not have to undergo any surgeries and the recovery was a lot easier for younger children. For they are still young and have a greater potential of growing a new and healthy bone. During the 2 years of traction his body replaced the dead bone with a new bone. However, the new bone is a woven bone (a softer bone) that is very weak and delicate. The longest process is reossification (when the bone hardens) and needed time to develop and become stronger. During the middle of this process he was then transferred to the brace. Once reossification is complete the femur (thigh bone) has fully healed.…
A speck of dust, a loose eyelash, or even a contact lens can float on the white of the eye. Usually, such objects can easily be rinsed off. However, you must not touch anything that sticks to the eye, penetrates the eye ball, or rests on the coloured part of the eye Iris or pupil) because this may damage the eye. Instead, make sure that the casualty gets medical attention quickly.…
In Haiti, the patients that suffer from crush related injuries do not have the available medical resources to treat their injuries. If Haiti was able to, a hospital could simply provide intravenous fluids with surgical assistance to prevent kidney failure and irreversible damage to the affected limb or limbs (QuakeHaiti.info 2010). Unfortunately the government and people of Haiti do not have the funding to provide what could be simple medical treatments to prevent serious health conditions. Without money, victims only have one option to prevent crush injuries from killing them and that is amputation of the affected limb.…

Audrey who is diagnosed with fractured left NOF (neck of femur) must be evaluated using pain assessment to obtain the optimal pain management intervention. Analgesics and non-pharmacologic approaches will be helpful to ease her pain and anxiety(Fink, 2000). As for her safety, the bed must be lowered down, side rails up if necessary and all her needs must be placed within her reach. In addition, nurses should use the appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis, as she will be undergoing arthroplasty to prevent postoperative infections. (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2001) She will also be given…

Donating money or time to charity is a good way to help ourselves feel better by improving the quality of life for other people. One of my favorite charities is The Shriners Hospital for children. They are a charitable organization, and their 22 hospitals are completely free to patients. According to their website, their vision is to “Become the best at transforming children’s lives by providing exceptional healthcare through innovative research, in a patient and family centered environment.” They are dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in need through medical and financial backing (Shriners Hospitals for Children).…

An oncologist is a doctor who practices exclusively in the treatment of cancer. “Because cancer can affect any organ in the body, and individuals of any age, there are many different kinds of oncologists” (Ferguson 118). For example, a pediatric oncologist works to treat and diagnose cancers that affect children (Brown). “Cancer found in children is not common, and is different in children than in adults. Pediatric oncologists receive special training in these differences and in how to relate to children with cancer and their families” (Hinkle). To become a pediatric oncologist one must go through many years of school and training, but the career comes with many benefits including job security and income.…
