The uses of POP have only grown with time. It began as a method to immobilise and reductions in the managing of adult and pediatric fractures, for which it is still being used today. The managing of low energy fractures of the humerus and tibia is possible without functional compromise with a POP cast. In Pediatric orthopedics POP has transformed the managing of club foot. What was once considered a surgically curable condition is now managed by serial casting. Plaster has also been used to treat fracture and deformities in spine. Plaster of Paris is used in postoperative immobilization and also in the managing of some amputees. Casting over stumps has allowed fast rehabilitation using prosthesis.
