Pediatric Nursing Career
All about Pediatric Nursing and Physical Therapy Assistant as Careers
Two professions that could be a possibility for someone who loves working with people especially children but also the health career world would be pediatric nurse or physical therapy assistant. Both of these are very rewarding careers and are never the same from a day to day basis, so if you worry about having a job that gets boring after you get the experience you want, there’s nothing to worry about with these because every day there will be something different you are looking at to working with. I personally would like to work in both professions because I think that if one wanted to they would be able to incorporate both professions into an everyday job.

Being a Pediatric nurse is a profession that makes sure you aren’t doing the same thing every day. Working with children of birth to 18 years of age is the focus of being a Pediatric Nurse. I currently work at a daycare as a Pre-school teacher, and have recently discovered that I love working with children. Children are very optimistic, and working with them is such an interesting job. Being able to communicate with not only their parents but also the children is a big component of being a Pediatric Nurse. You want to be able to educate and work with the family to make sure the child or children are being raised in the best possible healthy lifestyle that is available. You have to learn how to be compassionate but not get too attached to every child that comes into the pediatrician’s office. With the opportunity of working as a Pediatric Nurse, I would love to work in a privately owned pediatric office, or another option I would consider would be working in the pediatric wing at a …show more content…
It is a very serious job but, on the other hand, it is very fun to. Children are fun to be around; therefore, they require a lot of attention to make sure they aren’t hurting themselves. Some of the responsibilities of a pediatric nurse are assessing patient’s needs, providing patient care, assisting families with a child’s illness or injury, provide information regarding nutrition and good health habits, identifying a child’s symptoms, evaluating a child for symptoms and sings of abuse and providing general supportive care toward the child and family (Payscale, 2016). It requires a person to have superb bedside manner and a deep passion for both children and the health care industry (Payscale,

    Neonatal Nursing Career

After I graduate, it is required of me to become a registered nurse by going to nursing school for a number of years. As a neonatal nurse, I must become certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing due to the fact that I will be handling ill infants. Many hospitals in different locations require nurses to complete a small number of years of clinical experience in a hospital setting before practicing as a neonatal nurse. There are 3 different levels of neonatal nursing. Level 1 neonatal nurses take care of healthy infants after they are born. However, there isn't a major demand for these types of nurses because many infants are more likely to stay in the same room with their mother. A level 2 neonatal nurse, which is what I plan on becoming, takes care of premature infants or infants born with illnesses. Level 2 nurses are much more of a necessity than any of the other levels because sick infants need constant attention. A level 2 neonatal nurse may seem as though they have a lot of responsibility on their hands being that they're working with ill infants, but they don't compare to Level 3 neonatal nurse practitioners. Level 3 neonatal nurses work in the NICU with extremely ill infants. They work countless hours checking in on the ill infants and making sure they are responding well to treatments. Level 3 neonatal…

I have known that I wanted to work with children since I was a young child myself. Before the age of ten, I thought I might be a teacher. As I enjoyed math and science, several of my aunts, nurses themselves, encouraged me to consider nursing. As a sibling of a disabled child, I was probably exposed to more medical knowledge than average, and I took my first CPR class when I was eight years old. I liked the nurses and therapists that worked with my sister, but I also had respect for the teachers that worked so tirelessly with her.…

My ideal job is being a pediatrician. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “General pediatricians provide care for infants, children, teenagers, and young adults. They specialize in diagnosing and treating problems specific to younger people. Most pediatricians treat common illnesses, minor injuries, and infectious diseases, and administer vaccinations. Some pediatricians specialize in pediatric surgery or serious medical conditions that commonly affect younger patients, such as autoimmune disorders or chronic ailments”. All my life, I have always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I decided to major in the medical field when I was in 5th grade; at first I wanted to be a pediatrician, but now I want to have a degree in tropical medicine…

    Pediatric Nursing Shortage

The Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) has been instrumental in advocating for high quality, culturally sensitive, and comprehensive care for children and families. The healthcare needs of pediatric patients present unique challenges due to different developmental stages, limited communication skills, and differences in epidemiology and approaches to treatment as compared to adults. Nurse staffing is a focus of major concern because of the impact of staffing patterns on patient safety and quality of care. The advent of managed care, shortened hospital stays, and public reporting of quality measures demand that healthcare organizations objectively define and assess the quality of care delivered to children and families. Registered Nurses are the primary caregivers within the healthcare setting and are the essential link in assisting patients and families with navigating and humanizing a highly technical and impersonal healthcare system. An organization’s commitment to high quality pediatric care is dependent upon appropriate staffing levels with adequately prepared nurses and the implementation of collaborative, evidence-based practice (Schwalenstocker, Bisarya, Lau, & Adebimpe, 2007). In 2007, members of the Public Policy Committee developed the Safe Staffing Position Statement. This document outlined recommendations for safe and effective nursing care for children and their families. The position statement was recently updated and is intended to serve as the framework to assist organizations providing care to children in the implementation of evidenced based staffing plans to promote high-quality care. It is imperative that schools of nursing, healthcare institutions and pediatric nurses utilize this document as a resource to ensure that appropriate education, training, resources and effective staffing plans are provided to ensure…

Growing up in a large family, I have enjoyed caring for younger siblings which has made me want to care for other children. I want to study child nursing because it will provide me with opportunities to care for the health of children whilst also supporting families, which I know is paramount to high quality care. I find working with children refreshing as it enables me to appreciate the children's view on life, which does make me smile. Through volunteering with a local nursery for a year, I communicated with children who have not yet acquired language and so conveying meaning largely depended on non verbal behaviour. Here I realised that children do have specific needs…

The trade I have chosen from the Service sector is Child Development Practitioner. This trade entails planning various intellectual and physical activites for preschool and school-age children. Child Development Practitioners also care for infants and toddlers, as well as use teaching methods and childcare developmental theories to supervise and lead children in activites such as reading, writing, arts and crafts, and music. The personal qualities you need to succeed in this position are patience, dedication, and problem-solving skills. Children can be difficult to work with, and they require lots of time and work put into them in order to be able to succeed in taking care of them, and enriching them with knowledge. By being a Child Development Practitioner, I would gain first-hand experience on what it is like to work with children. This would be very useful as I am planning to go into medicine because in the future I would be working with children as a pediatrician. It is…
