Pediatric Nurse Scholarship Essay

The thought of fulfilling my purpose in life by becoming a pediatric nurse compels me every day. A career in nursing means that I will be at the forefront of making a difference in my patients’ life mentally and physically through care, respect, and compassion. In the health care setting, I have been limited but very appreciative for every experience. In the past, I have shadowed as a part of my high school curriculum, volunteered at my former pediatric office, and interned at Walgreens as a pharmacy technician trainee, which I later gained my national and state pharmacy technician license. Although I am licensed I have not been able to secure a technician job while attending Texas A&M, however, I did not let that stop me from being able to secure my own source of income. From my own knowledge being the first oldest girl out of ten children does not mean you get whatever you want. The first most relevant and most impactful setback for me has to be my fathers’ work accident. Ever since his accident I have had to do more for myself to alleviate some financial stress off my parents shoulders while my mother takes care of him. This meant that I would work and visit home more often. Nevertheless, this has not directly affected my grades because I know how much my parents and I value my education. The second and last impactful setback has to pertain to the advising system at Texas A&M. I love and respect Texas A&M, but their recommend academic plan was not cohesive with mine. I was advised in the direction of obtaining a health degree first before applying to nursing school, which explains why I have completed many health classes. This has put me behind on my prerequisite courses, which has caused a major setback in my application process for nursing
