Pediatric Nurse Personal Statement

I began nursing school at Valencia College in August of 2006. Once I completed my pediatric clinical rotation at Arnold Palmer hospital, I began working as an advanced clinical tech in acute pediatrics--a pediatric medical surgical unit. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to become a Pediatric Nurse. Pediatrics brings such a unique perspective in health care that I fell in love with it and to follow, I completed a pediatric nursing internship in my last year of nursing school and began my nursing career as a graduate Nurse in 2007. The first few years of nursing were some of the best times of my career as I learned the foundations of how to care for children and families and I knew I wanted to excel at it. After working nearly a year and a half as a RN in the acute pediatrics unit, I transferred to the emergency room--the only level one trauma center in the Central Florida area.
I loved the fast paced environment and it equipped me with the skill to become proficient in conducting patient assessments, ability to work well under pressure, communicate effectively with many types of patients, collaborate with a variety of health care providers, and prioritize the tasks that must be performed. With my emergency experience I became certified in pediatric emergency nursing (CPEN), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
