PDAF Argumentative Paper
Say Yes to Pork and No to Corruption The Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), better known as “Pork Barrel” is a public fund regularly distributed among the members of the congress to cater to the legislators’ local projects for the development of their particular communities. The “Pork Barrel Scam” is currently a sensitive and obfuscated issue in our country as Pork Barrel is a frequent target for critics who say that it facilitates corruption. They say it makes it easier for politicians to divert money into their own pockets, and perpetuates the patronage politics that has kept the Philippines from progressing. I will not anymore be surprised if many other anomalies will soon be discovered about the allocation of Pork Barrel. With the help of the investigative documents and the media’s documentations, we discover that clearly, the corrupt legislators and their accomplices in the private sector succumb themselves in funds that is supposed to only be allotted for the benefit of a locality. However, with all the issues attached to this controversial funding, can we really say that PDAF is an “evil” fund? So, the ultimate question then is this: Should the Pork Barrel be abolished or not? Personally, I do not see anything detrimental about the allocation Pork Barrel. In fact, the distribution of the said funds is being provided for the benefit of a certain community – which is a good notion. However, the problem in our country is that, the legislators themselves are the ones corrupt. As Miriam Defensor – Santiago quoted, “[Pork Barrel are the senators'] personal responsibility. You cannot just plead that other agencies have been created for the sole purpose of checking those NGOs [who have been given Pork Barrel funds]. That is such a lame excuse. It’s an evasion of responsibility.” There are those who treat the PDAF as their own private fund, to use as they please. This is clearly wrong: What is involved here is the people’s money; it should be used

Volf states that he is a committed christian (I am not disputing this) writing to Christians. However, arguing his thesis without the key component of salvation, it would seem counterintuitive for many Christians. First, Jesus is clear that He is the one and only way to salvation and that NO ONE can come to the Father except through Him (Jn. 14:6). It seems difficult to argue that one can come to the Father via a detour. However, Volf seems to suggest that worshipping God does not necessitate the need for a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. This ultimately deprives both Muslims and Christians of their unique claims for their purpose of believing and worshipping God. No one in their right state of mind would believe and worship God as a recreational…

The use of animals in medical and scientific research has long been a controversial subject among the public. Some groups and organizations claim that animal testing is cruel and provides little insight to the effects of treatments on humans. However, researchers claim that animal testing can provide critical data that leads to the improvement of disease treatment in humans. Animal testing should be allowed because any means used to advance treatment of human diseases should be available to medical researchers.…

Child support is when one parent makes payment to another parent for the child. Many people think that a man should have to pay child support if he expresses in the beginning of the pregnancy that he doesn’t want the child. They think that the man still made the decision to lay in bed with the women, so he should still pay child support but I think a man should not have to pay child support if he expresses in the beginning of the pregnancy that he doesn’t want the child because it’s the mothers choice, because some mothers use the child support for other uses, and because the father can be set up.…

Some forms of corruption—-now called “institutional corruption”[2]—-are distinguished from bribery and other kinds of obvious personal gain. Campaign contributions are the prime example. Even when they are legal, and do not constitute a quid pro quo, they have a tendency to bias the process in favor of special interests, and undermine public confidence in the political institution. They corrupt the institution without individual members being corrupt themselves. A similar problem of corruption arises in any institution that depends on financial support from people who have interests that may conflict with the primary…
