A strong sense determination has always been a key part of who I am. I've always felt that, like driving a car, unless you take control of your life and grab the steering wheel, you won't get very far, or go in the right direction. In a world full of indecision, seldom do you find someone who knows exactly who or what they want to be in life; someone who bears determination, dedication, and motivation towards their goal. Happiness is knowing one’s potential and acting on it. My ambition in life is to help others reach their goals. This is what drives me. I want to be a social worker for the disabled and rehabilitation. Getting out of bed in the morning for an average person doesn’t require too much effort, but somewhere in the world a 10 year old little girl is missing both of her legs. No one cares, no one took the time out of there busy schedule to believe in her. Somewhere in the world, a mother is telling her little boy why daddy can’t play catch anymore. The neighbors stare in disgust; they don’t know he had his arm blown off by a landmine in Vietnam while defending his country. Someday I will be the one to teach the little boy with a lung disease how to sing, and the kid with the prosthetic foot how to walk. I get my inspiration from my father. My father was born with a mild form of cerebral palsy; a condition due to a lack of sufficient oxygen at birth causing a disability in his legs. This was no one’s fault, his parents and family loved him very much, yet he has had a struggle all his life. He spent much of his childhood in surgery and recovery, including near 2 years in a swimming pool learning how to walk. While other children were learning to run, he was learning to crawl. While other children were learning mathematics, he was in a hospital room. Throughout his life he suffered the inhumanity and absence of compassion that was to be expected from his attending school. Friends weren’t friends; people have a tendency to treat those with…

In one of the week 3 discussion questions we discussed the algorithm that would be required to make a peanut butter sandwich. In this CheckPoint you will need to take that one step further and create a program design to make a peanut butter sandwiches. Below you will find a partial program design; you need to complete it by adding the pseudocode in the required areas. You need to add one repetition (loop) control structure and one decision control to complete the program design. The user will decide how many sandwiches are made; this is where the loop will be used. The user will decide if the sandwich includes jelly, and, if it does, what flavor of jelly; to keep it simple we are only allowing grape or strawberry jelly.…

I believe Margaret Drabble’s statement, “Our desire to conform is greater than our respect for objective facts,” to be quite true. Throughout history, people of all ages have wanted to be accepted and belong to a group rather than look at the facts and measure what is true and false. It is very evident in our society today that not only do we want to be accepted and belong, but we also are willing to do whatever it takes, no matter what the consequences turn out to be. I agree with Drabble’s statement and believe that it is true all around the world. If you were to step outside our society and look back at it objectively, I can assure you that you would see evidence of this.…

Once you have all the material that you need, you can move on to making the sandwich. It’s simple! The next step is to make the sandwich. Position the bread slices on the plate side-by-side, with one slice facing up and the other facing down. Using the knife, scoop a large dollop of peanut butter and apply it to one side. In the short story "A&P" author John Updike describes in detail what a boy's infatuation with the opposite sex can lead him to do. John Updike goes into great description about the setting. He also makes it a point to be very vivid when he uses characterization. He gives the characters names that subtlety describe their personalities and lets the reader make assumptions and accusations on Sammy's motivations for his quitting his job at the grocery store.…

“It’s our policy” (6), A&P by John Updike, a short story centered on conformity and an adolescent named Sammy claiming his independence. The grocery store represents a box that cages Sammy in and prevents him from experiencing a maturing phase in his life. The every day ritual of the store is “empty” (4) and everyone usually has “nothing much to do” (4). The grocery store never really changes and is a bit of a “Crummy” (6) place to be as customers are as boring as “sheep” (6). Sammy has accepted the bore by molding himself into the store, observing and analyzing every square inch of the building. Sammy feels like the store has control over him, like he has been painted white and camouflaged into its vast walls. He needs to find his own unique colors and paint his own life’s picture.…
