Patriotism In Johnny Tremain By Esther Forbes

Has any author tried to teach you something in one of his/her’s books. Well that's what Esther Forbes does in her book Johnny Tremain. There are three big main topics in Johnny Tremain and they are Patriotism, Pride, and Leadership. One of the main topics in Johnny Tremain is Patriotism. A lot of characters in the book Johnny tremain use Patriotism in their daily life such as Rab, Sons Of Liberty, soldiers, Cilla, Johnny, Paul Revere, and a couple of other people. Some of theses people use Patriotism while taking down the British Empire. It took a long time before they weakened the empire but they did finally. But, along the way Johnny had some hard times like with Mrs. Lapham(4).Johnny had a hard time with her. Another reason is that Rab does not like to mess up anything against the British like the Sons Of Liberty (185). One other reason is because Rab stood up for his country and risked everything he had to save everyone he knew and did not know and got injured because of it (248). On the other hand, the British did not put up with any of this brutal tactics the Patriots used. So they used some sarcasm back at them (141). And Esther Forbes shows that in difficult times, stand up for what you believe in.

Johnny and Rab mostly show to be a leader. A lot of people can be a leader and their were a couple of leaders in this book, like, Johnny, Cilla, and Rab. Another reason is that when Rab tells Johnny how good he would be at being a messenger. Last the reason is when Johnny get to a doctor and sees everyone else who is hurt worse than him, he says that he can wait till everyone else is healed.
