Patagonia's Mission Statement
Even with these amenities, Patagonia’s mission statement never seemed to get lost in the shuffle. Patagonia aims to “build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis” (McShane and Von Glinow, 251) Above the down jackets read a sign advertising Patagonia’s recent move to traceable down. Since the Fall 2014, Patagonia only purchases 100% traceable down in order to guarantee that birds were not force-fed or live-plucked. Patagonia works side by side with the animal welfare organization ‘Four Paw’ to audit its supply chain, insuring their down is both clean and ethical. May 2007 to April 2009 Update Over the past two years, AFC has faced more intense competition, particularly from aquaculturists in Chile. In addition, Chilean output has increased the supply of salmon and the Canadian dollar has strengthened in relation to the U.S. dollar. As a result, AFC has been unable to meet its budgeted revenue targets. Stocks of unsold harvestable fish have increased, as well as the corresponding cost of maintaining the fish, and the company barely made a profit in fiscal 2009. In January 2009, AFC lost one of its largest retail customers, S&F Seafood, to a new salmon aquaculture firm, Nu-Farm Inc. This new competitor uses a sophisticated, computerized system for supply chain and product distribution functions. The system allows Nu-Farm to establish web links with customers, such as S&F Seafood, and to manage orders and deliveries directly for each of the customer’s retail outlets. This has eliminated the need for customers to make separate arrangements to receive and warehouse fresh fish, and to ultimately distribute the fish to their retail locations. In February 2009, 2,000 kilograms of fish from Site 4 were rejected by three important customers, two of which are located in the United States. An internal investigation revealed that two employees at Site 4 had neglected to follow established procedures and failed to reject some fish that did not meet quality standards and were not certified by the staff veterinarian. In April 2009, employees neglected to secure some of the net-pens at Site 3. During a storm, more than 300,000 kilograms of young fish escaped from these net-pens and most were subsequently lost to predators. Although the company’s property and liability insurance covers criminal theft of fish, it does not cover the loss of fish from disease, parasites, escape, or predators. In addition, there is no liability coverage with…

A pelican’s pouch can be best described as a thin, wrinkled plastic bag that is attached to the bird’s mouth. The sac is made of a film-like material that can stretch out to an incredible capacity, much more than the stomach can hold. One of the most defining and perhaps important features of the brown pelican is its pouch, which effectively acts as a net. As an experienced fisherman, the bird precisely “scoops” up minnows, herring and other small fish that swim under the ocean’s foamy surface. If a fish is caught, the pouch appears to conform and shrink-wrap itself around the fish, allowing the pelican to maneuver the helpless being into its large trachea in order to be eaten. Just as how plastic bags can be recycled for different purposes, the pelican’s pouch performs other necessary functions vital to the population’s survival. During arid conditions, the pelican is able to expand the pouch and wave it around, so body heat can be dissipated into the atmosphere. By behaving similar to a flag, the throat sac is able to keep the brown pelican cool even in some of the harshest…

The corporate citizenship of Patagonia is one of long-standing and innovation. Since their products cater to individuals who not only enjoy, but love the wilderness, their commitment to decreasing the negative affects of their business practices and improving the world around them is a belief rather than a task or goal. Since this is the case they instinctively try and find new and better ways to fulfill this belief while other companies follow the “green” trend. They have been actively involved in helping the environment and those who share this ideal for over 20 years. This shows that they are not interested in temporary “fly-by” solutions to…

No duty of serving God is too small, as long as your serving God. I will share the gospel of Jesus with whom I come across with because the gospel is the power of God. (ROMANS 1:16) I will be ready to pick up my bags and go wherever God tells me because to serve God is what I want to do. I will serve Him on the way to work and after work. I will serve Him as I teach my children about the Almighty. “You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (DEUTERONOMY 6:7) I will serve God making sure my will is not my own but His as Jesus also did. “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” (JOHN 5:19) I will serve by comforting the poor in spirit, hungry, weeping, and the widows. “If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your brother, but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him…

Be the teacher I would want my own child to have. This was my motivation and driving force throughout my entire studies at Walden University. I can stand before you today and say with one hundred percent certainty that I am now the teacher that I would want my own child to have. As I began my journey with the Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership, one of our first assignments was to read the college’s mission. As I read the mission, I remember wondering how an online program was going to prepare me to become a teacher who inspires and influences my students. I now understand that Walden University gave me the tools and knowledge to look deep within myself and my own teaching. Those tools have helped me become that teacher who is able to inspire and influence students.…
