What do you think of when you hear the word hero? Maybe you think of someone sacrificing their life, a superhero, or just someone you look up to. Pat Tillman will be remembered as a hero to many people. He was an NFL football player for the Arizona Cardinals who joined the special force team, Army Rangers, after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He died from friendly fire while fighting. Pat Tillman is remembered as an American hero because of his determination, strong work ethic, and his modesty.

Tillman exhibited this quality by telling his Arizona State University football coach, he would be playing there for four years and then he would be either playing in the NFL or working. Another way Tillman showed modesty was by saying that he had a high amount of respect for people in the military, but that he felt he hadn’t done anything to help the country. Finally, when he got the Arthur Ashe courage award, he sent his brother to accept it instead of himself because he didn’t want draw attention to himself.
