Pat And Elvis's Journey
I’m curious to know what Pat and Elvis were talking about, when Pat nod’s to me. When I glance at Elvis I wish immediately I hadn’t because he’s staring directly at me. Generally, I don’t get embarrassed, but under the scrutiny of his dark blue eyes, the blood rushes to my cheeks. So, I shamelessly look away and smiling, trying to find something, anything else to look at until the red in my face goes away.

In the Slip or Trip Story, Queenie Onaled did murder her husband. She and a few of her friends previously went to a country club party. Queenie was alone with him for ten minutes before her friends arrived, which is enough time to commit a murder. Also, her and her husband, Arthur were arguing and were on bad terms, which could have caused anger to release. In the background of the picture, you can clearly see lots of pans hanging up, above the stove. After the autopsy that was given to Arthur, it showed that he suffered a wound to his head. It is well known that pans can be used as weapons and if they are, they are usually used around the area of the head. Also, his glass that was in his hand never broke, which shows that could have not caused…

In the chapter Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong in the fictional novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, Mary Anne Bell is a prime example of a dynamic character. Mary Anne was an attractive girl, seventeen years old, from Cleveland Heights Senior High. She had a bubbly and girly personality. Her boyfriend, Mark Fossie, got the idea to fly his girlfriend out to his assigned medical outpost in Vietnam. The outpost was near the village of Tra Bong, up in the mountains west of Chu Lai. It was a fun place to be during the war because you only had to tend to the victims and after that you can do as you wish. The outpost has also a base of operations for a squad of six Green Berets aka Greenies. This would all seem like a safe place to protect an innocent girl from war but one way or another you get a taste of it just as Mary Anne did. War has a way of changing people.…

After the death of Hilola Bigtree, Ava and Ossie began to live in a “fantasy world.” Ossie had made up an imaginary boyfriend for herself and became obsessed with him. One night, Ossie decided to leave Swamplandia and head off with Louis Thanksgiving. In the end of the story, Ava, believed Ossie’s story of her boyfriend and began to have imaginary visions of the surroundings and of the Bird Man. After the death of their mother, Ava and Ossie used these imaginary and fantasy visions in an attempt to conceptualize life after their mother's death. If Hilola had still been alive, Ava and Ossie would not have had such distorted, imaginary visions of the world. Hilola would have led them in a more rational direction instead of such a radical, and…

To truly understand Elvis, one must understand his later life. When Elvis came back from the draft, he found out that his mom had died and that he had nothing left and he started to get frustrated(Watson 66). When Elvis got frustrated he started doing drugs and then went back into singing gospel music(Watson 84). Sometimes Elvis would go on stage and make up his own crazy lyrics and people would start to leave and he would say i'm sorry I drank before the concert, but he was still invited to sing at concerts(Watson 87). One day Elvis said that he wasn't feeling well, so he cancelled the next concert and when he went to the bathroom that night his wife checked on him and found out the he was dead on the floor the next morning(Watson…

The song that I chose to listen to was “Hound Dog” by Big Mama Thornton and the cover by Elvis Presley. This is a very popular song and I’ve known it for a long time (as it was in the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch), yet I didn’t know until I was reading the textbook this week that Elvis Presley was not the original performer of this song. I really enjoyed listening to Big Mama Thornton sing it. She has a very deep, rich voice. I like that she sang it more smoothly, kind of legato, than Elvis Presley did. She also had a different instrumental sound and made barking sounds at the end. In contrast, Presley’s version is more bouncy and had different styling to make it so that he wasn’t making a complete copy of Big Mama Thornton’s song. In my opinion,…

Prior to the tornado, my experience of Joplin was limited to a dozen family visits over two decades. My lasting impression from those years were of a city that felt more like a small town. However, Joplin is the fourteenth-largest city and the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Missouri, boasting 49,000 residents and a daytime population of 270,000 taken from the metropolitan population of 400,000 citizens. Of the citizens who self-identified their ethnicity in the 2010 census, 85.6 percent were Caucasian, 3.3 percent were African-American, 4.5 percent were Hispanic/Latino, and the remaining population were Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander. Citizens of Joplin, primarily middle-class and blue-collar, worked in manufacturing,…

Yesterday me and my Dad went on an 11ish mile hike on the Appalachian Trail. This hike was probably one of the coolest hikes I've been on. It went from one beautiful landscape to another. As I was laying in bed that night with my muscles aching from the extra 1.5 miles we didn't plan on, I realized I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my Dad. He introduced me to my love of the outdoors and my passion to hike the entire AT. I hope one day ,Dad, we can stand on Mount Katahdin together and look back at the 2190 miles behind…

Those in a social relationship who become jealous of their friends cause dark emotions to arise. This is proven in the scene where Duke witnesses Olivia and Sebastian embrace, causing him to become envious of Sebastian. The skilful use of facial expression of Duke in this shot ideally demonstrates this notion. The contrast between the relaxed, grinning face compared to the face with deeply furrowed eyebrows and narrow lips can clearly show that Duke was feeling betrayed and shock when Olivia ran up to kiss Sebastian. The facial expression can show how…

    Elizabeth Proctor Essay

Interestingly, it is John who leads all of the questions at the beginning of their conversation. I realise that he is desperate for news of his children first and foremost and my replies would be delivered clearly and calmly, my voice would remain measured and my emotions as firmly intact as I can manage. I am determined not to add to his (or my) agony by becoming overly emotional and hysterical, we may not have time for such displays of emotion. However, when John states, ‘You have not seen them?' I can barely cope with the fact spoken by my husband who clearly is so desperately upset for my plight. At this point I would inhale through my nose deeply but silently, clench my teeth slightly and momentarily look away in order to compose myself before I say, ‘I have not'. Proctor's line, ‘You are a – marvel, Elizabeth.' serves to increase the welling emotions that I am just managing to control – his words are so heartfelt and unselfish that they epitomise the essence of the man I married, as a result, the tears threaten to spill themselves again and I would shift my position in the chair, tuck a piece of stray hair behind my ear, perform any action that distracts the attention away from me and my sense of overwhelming emotion. John would recognise this and would reach his hand out to touch my cheek, or perhaps try to tame a stray strand of hair himself, however the effort makes him wince and my next line, ‘You – have been tortured?' is said as an automatic reaction, it is hard to ask – my eyes would widen in incredulity, the pitch of my voice would be raised and…
