Passion is Adventure
Passion is Adventure
There is darkness, black with a hint of teal surrounding a giant grainy, white stone-like pointe shoe. A small ballerina in a purple leotard and a white tutu is shown in the spotlight. Hanging from the small bow towards the top of the pointe shoe, she is looking up at the words "Your passion is a real adventure." This is an ad created by a dance school in Italy called “Accademia Teatro Alla Scala," that conveys a message to convince you to follow your passion by signing up for dance courses at their studio.
When viewing this ad, the first thing to stand out is the girl in the spotlight. The colors around her are dark and plain, in stark contrast to her bright purple leotard and snow white tutu. The leotard adds that pop of color, drawing the attention directly to the center of the ad. The background is dark to show that nothing else is important and focuses on what is in color. Even the pointe shoe is not traditionally pink. Instead, the stone look of the shoe makes it statuesque, belonging more to the background than the dancer. It looks like the background is frozen in time while the ballerina is in focus. There are shadows on the inside and outside of the shoe, but not on the top. As the ballerina is the center of attention, the top of the shoe is also important, because it represents her goal. The contrast in colors, the shadows, and the spotlight keeps the focus on the girl and her goal.
What is the purpose of the giant pointe shoe? Do the shoes make a ballerina's dreams come true, or is it the girl wearing them that makes the dreams come true? Many girls dream of being that graceful and beautiful ballerina, but don't have the right shoes to do it. However, it isn't the shoes that make the dance happen, rather it is the one wearing them. Just like the ballerina in the pointe shoes, you are the one wearing your shoes and you can go wherever you want to go. Sometimes it is scary to be in control and is easier to get someone or something

The producers chose to use vibrant colors throughout the ad to make the motion picture livelier. Although the actors are not famously known, they distract the audience with the humorous script. By having the father and his friends dance around in puffy dresses, they make themselves seem childish and more relatable to younger people. The text in this advertisement is kept to a minimal, so that it will not overpower the main visual aspect. Only the slogan is shown to emphasize the importance of what this ad is really about. Bright orange and white are against a striking black to make the logo really stand out. All of these notable elements immensely help towards making this commercial engaging to the…

The ad with the woman wearing devil-red boots shows that despite her innocent seeming attire, the devil-red boots helps capture that she is a rebel. The shattered chandelier at her feet shows that she has shot it down and the expression on her face shows that she was proud to do it. I believe that ads make people free to being an individual. There are a lot of different advertisements in which companies try to sell one of their products. These products are usually in…

The advertisement has a very good focal point. When first viewing the advertisement, you are immediately drawn to the photo of the man standing on top of the skyscraper. This photo supports the key message of the ad: that your business can stand out in Rancho Cucamonga. The ad is mostly readable. The color scheme of the ad provides good contrast between the text and the background. For example, the lavender text of the message of the ad can be easily seen on the blue background of the photo. The ad also exhibits good symmetry. The top of the ad focuses on grabbing the reader’s attention, while the bottom of the ad tries to persuade the reader using detailed proof. This use of symmetry also makes the ad look well organized. The preferred audience, corporations looking to relocate, may be more drawn to the ad due to its organization.…

To start off, this ad has a lack of color except for the periwinkle polish that is apart of the large image. This lack of color helps to highlight the pigmentation of the nail polish as well as the main focus of the ad. The brand name is even in white, but it is being outlined by faint grey shading to make the letters seem three dimensional like on the nail polish bottle. In the middle of the page, there is a huge, clear cassette tape balancing on top of a bottle of Essie nail polish. The periwinkle color polish in this bottle is being…

The advertisement uses many different sizes and colors within the whole image. The top Cover Girl is in the light green color reflecting back to the idea of softness and it is the vantage point for a person’s eyes. It is very bold and automatically draws attention to the top half of the advertisement. Also, the different very black and dark bold text at the bottom of the page seems intriguing for a few reasons. First, the different font types and sizes attempt to make you really see the first three lines very clearly and get an understanding of what the product is. However, the work “new” happens to be in green followed by “natureluxe silk foundation” with “luxe” being bolded, suggesting that this product is truly “luxury touched by nature;” which is in very small print right below that as well. In addition, I find it interesting that the two black bolded lines both have the word “air” in them and also soft, air-like words, such as “fresh” and “breath.” To me this is suggesting that even though the text may be dark and bold, this product is still going to make the user feel fresh and…

The “Ballet Solider” is an advertisement that was created for Monster.com, which is a website that is designed to help people with career choices and schooling, whether they are stuck in a dead-end job, or have no job. The ad consists of two photographs; the first is of a clear plastic bag with a label saying, “Stuck in the wrong job? –Monster.com”. In the plastic bag, there are army-green toy soldiers, and a bright pink ballerina in the center of the bag. The second pictures shows the soldiers set up as if they are in battle, and the ballerina is in the center of it all, resembling how one can get stuck in the middle of a job that is not right for that person. The goal of the ad is to get people to visit the website, and to sign up. The message behind the ad is to remind people how easy it is to get stuck in the middle of the wrong job, or a dead-end job, and that visiting Monster.com will help one to find better jobs and help with career options.…

The woman is surrounded by four men of various stages of undress. She is being held down forcefully by her wrists by one of the men as the remaining three look on almost supportively. The men connote power and dominance shown by them all being in positions of power standing over the woman and pinning her down. The woman is dressed in only lingerie and stilettos. She is made to look very glossy and has a blank, absent expressions giving the appearance of a doll. This portrays her as an object of sexual desire and is immediately objectifying and dehumanising her. The scene is set in a dream like setting with blue skies and fluffy clouds painting a seemingly idyllic fantasy setting. Dolce and Gabbana have issued statements saying that the advertisement represents “an erotic dream, a sexual game” however it is clear that the woman is not an active or willing player. Her vulnerability is shown by her hips being elevated which indicated that she is struggling against her aggressor. The woman’s face is turned away from the man, a sign that she is attempting to ignore what is going on. Her blank, emotionless expression also shows that she is not present and is submissive to the man’s desires. The angle of the image being shot angled upwards once again marginalises women and reinforces unrealistic gender roles of male dominance over women. Therefore, this advertisement is aimed at conservative men of a high socio-economic class that will buy…

Pointe shoes have not been the same since ballerinas have been performing. They used to be slippers and were darned (sewed) around the toes to help to dancer rise onto her toes. Dancers were not able to stand on pointe for very long. Now, pointe shoes have much more support allowing you to stand on pointe longer. It wasn't until the early 1800's when dancers started to go on their toes on their own. The first (full length) ballet that was performed on pointe was called La Sylphide featuring Maria Taglioni in 1832.…

The advertisement is composed of two parts equally. On the left side, it is a portrait of a female celebrity with a serious facial expression. On the right side, it is a question written in large font with a small text and an image of a crib below it. The question is: “Not really the way you pictured your first crib, huh?” The crib has a simple design. The advertisement is basically black and white with a touch of a hot pink color. This color only appears in the name of the organization, which is at the bottom of the portrait, and parts of the question.…

I chose to use those women as they are the top three most prevalent minorities found in the United States. I also did it to break away from the typical Caucasian, American barbie dolls one would typically see just about everywhere in the ad world. The women are of different body types and represent their culture to bring about more authenticity and non-conformity in the advertisement. The background the women are in are plain white as to not take away any attention from them. Nike checks have also been noticeably placed in each panel the women are in as if to say women don’t only have to be strong in a physical sense while also unconsciously functioning as a way to promote Nike as a brand. Nike’s trademark “Just Do It” slogan, found at the top right of the ad, is also there as a way of telling women to go out and be the leaders that America needs. Lastly, there is text found on the advertisement that says, “Don't love me for my body--love me for me”, which is there to reiterate my statement I made previously; women should be loved based on their inner self rather than their outer…

Nuit Blanche describes a fleeting moment between two strangers as they experience love at first sight. They overcome obstacles to reach one another. For instance, the woman breaking through glass, and the man damaging a car and meeting her in one piece. This visually appealing short film is old-fashioned based on the lack of color, and the dress of the two main characters. The setting itself, transforms right into a hyper-real moment of emotional intensity. There was a tunneled vision because both individuals excluded their surroundings to get to their destination. Once they get past staring at each other, the man and woman seem to have a promising future, due to the events that occurred; they overcame obstacles of the same material. Time slows when the man steps into a puddle. Similarly, when the woman views the man's actions, she stands and drops her glass of wine, where it slowly shatters on the white table cloth.…
