Introduction
This study is all about the analysis of the present attendance monitoring, and payroll computation, and the creation of the proposed “JETMS e-Payroll System and Employees’ Portal through Biometric Time Attendance”.
Payroll plays a major role in every business entity. For without it, no workers would like to stay in a business, and as a result, business will not grow and its goals can never be achieved. The term “payroll” itself encompasses every employee of a company who receives a regular wage or other compensation. Some of them may be paid a steady salary while others are paid for hours worked or the number of items produced. All of these different payment methods are calculated by a payroll specialist and the appropriate paychecks are issued. Different companies often use objective measuring tools such as timecards or timesheets completed by supervisors to determine the total amount of payroll due each pay period. And those tools and methods used are the so called “Payroll System”.
As mentioned earlier, small to medium size companies still use manual type of computing employee’s wages, which is very time consuming task for companies with average number of employees; not to mention the fact that manual recording of data has a higher error percentage. In fact, some studies indicate that using a manual time entry of employee’s much likely will result in “time robbery/time fraud” . Why? It is because many employees’ logged in and logged out incorrectly. They indicate that they arrived on time even if they are late for a couple of minutes or even an hour. This results in the downfall of a company simply because time attendance is not monitored accurately. After an interview with the payroll officer of JET Montessori School, the researchers found out that their system is composed of a manual time recording of attendance though the payroll is done with the use of computer program specifically with the aid of Microsoft Excel worksheet.
