Paris Is Amazing
Dear diary

Paris is amazing!

I've had the most brilliant day and I can't wait to share it with you.

The sounds, smells and sights enthralled me. I think they have made an imprint in my mind not to mention a dent in my heart.

I spent the day on my own but yet, I never felt lonely. I began the day with coffee and croissants at a quaint little restaurant that overlooked the Seine River. The setting was perfect; I sat on the pavement taking in all the sights and wonders of Paris. All along the river were up and coming artists displaying their works, hackling with potential buyers. Stalls; selling T. shirts and miniature Eiffel towers. On every corner is a family bakery with the most interesting and delicious pastries. I confess that I tasted as much as I could in one day.

After a stroll along the river, I caught a taxi to the famous art museum known as the Louvre. I had to cut my tour short otherwise I wouldn't have seen anything else in Paris. The Louvre was huge containing; old, exotic and world famous paintings. I thankfully managed to see the famous Mona Lisa; they say her eyes follow you. (A little too spooky for me)

You can't visit Paris without going up the Eiffel Tower. Built in 1889, it towers over the city and the view from up there was spectacular. It truly took my breath away. The trip up in the lift however was a bit nerve racking. The architecture of the buildings and old churches like the Notre Dame was beautiful...if only they made buildings like that today.

I watched the locals performing on the street corners; clown acts, riding a uni-cycle you name it I experienced it - in just one day in Paris.

Sorry, I can't tell you anymore, I'm exhausted from my day!

Everyone who visits Versailles walks through the castle. Most people also walk around in the Versailles gardens, where the most famous fountains are. But not everyone visits the Grand Trianon and the Petit Trianon. I don't blame them, it takes a lot of walking to see all the gardens in one day. But because I was there with a group of art history students and a very enthousiastic teacher, we walked around in all the gardens.…

De Botton informs on how he adopted the “grid of interest” into his life after reading a book about the traveling mindset. He adds, “I had imposed a grid interest on the street, my walks along the street had been excised of any attentiveness to beauty, of any associative thoughts, any sense of wonder or gratitude, any philosophical digressions sparked by visual elements” (De Botton 63). He realized that these everyday objects, such as a rusty green lamp post, serve no purpose in a person’s path; it is generally considered that paying attention to them is absurd and a waste of time mostly because the mind of the individual isn’t capable of noticing the surroundings when they are distracted. His inability to imagine the experience as new and refreshing limits his perspective. Daily routines are ineradicable in a person’s mind where they impede their imagination. Similarly, Adam Gopnik applies the “grid of interest” concept into “Bumping into Mr. Ravioli.” Gopnik uses the unique, though fictitious, friendship of a little girl and her imaginary friend to mock the intense daily habits that adults have used to take over their imagination. Gopnik writes about the effect of business in that it has dominated people’s lives, “Busyness is felt so intently here because we are both crowded and overloaded” (Gopnik 158). The people of New York are “crowded” to the point where there are so many people in the city that they are not able to focus on their environment because of the plethora of people commuting on a daily basis. Considering that New Yorkers do not even reserve a small interval of time to take in their surroundings, it is obvious that they lack the ability to build a relationship. The daily rush to get business done takes away the emotional aspects of life that require imagination. Without time and perspective, people lose sight of themselves and let life pass…

“Charlie directed his taxi to the Avenue de l'Opera, which was out of his way. But he wanted to see the blue hour spread over the magnificent façade, and imagine that the cab horns, playing endlessly the first few bars of La Plus que Lent, were the trumpets of the Second Empire. They were closing the iron grill in front of Brentano's Book-store, and people were already at dinner behind the trim little bourgeois hedge of Duval's. He had never eaten at a really cheap restaurant in Paris. Five-course dinner, four francs fifty, eighteen cents, wine included. For some odd reason he wished that he had.…

This field trip was educational and at the same time entertaining for the entire family. I learned a lot of things from history, others’ cultures, science and old arts. I was amazed by the diversity of the collections exhibited in this museum including masks, jewelry, sculptures, pottery, paintings and many royal pieces. The pieces of art that I selected were just part of many that captured my heart and attention. These pieces were The dancer at Pigalle’s, a painting by Gino Servini representing a women dancing and spinning around happily in a stage. Butterfly Kid (girl), a sculpture by Yinka Schonibare, that relates art with culture and environment and, the Paysage (A Winter Day in Brittany), a landscape by William Lamb Picknell representing a traveler going back home enjoying the nature after a long…

When I went to the art museum, I had no idea that I would come into contact with one of my favorite Impressionists artists. I spent hours walking through the museum, gallery after gallery. Each piece was beautifully created. I saw portraits, prints, sculptures, all eccentric in their own way. My family, quickly paced, moved through the maze of colors with lightning speed. As for me, each one had an intricate story and detail that I was determined to learn.…

    One Night Description

The next morning we decided to go on tours and learn more about the city itself and the history that comes from it. When we got into our cab that was taking us to our destination, I looked out the window and was amazed at all the people who rode their bikes along the canals, under the beautiful trees and flowers over layering the sidewalks. I told my dad I wanted to rent a bike the rest of the way, so we got out of our cabs and found the closest bike rental. After realizing that the bike was way too tall for me and falling off a few times, I finally got the hang of it and we rode our bikes alongside the river until we reached the museum, The Louvre. Walking inside, it was astonishing to see the interest people take into consideration over the art. The way I’ve learned so much about this museum, it didn’t feel real to actually had step foot inside. Especially seeing the Mona Lisa, and how small it actually is. With glass, long red rope, and 2 body guards standing in front of this famous…

    The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, held in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. It took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days to complete the tower and it was inaugurated on 31 March, 1889 and was open to public from the 6th of May. Gustave designed a 984 foot open lattice, wrought iron tower that mesmerized people around the world for its aesthetic looks. The base of the tower is formed by four semi-circular arcs. These arcs were built due to Gustave 's artistic sense and by his engineering thoughtfulness. Eiffel Tower is made from pure iron, although it is a common notion that it is built of steel. Gustave used puddle iron, that is, a type of traditional wrought iron, to build a very strong tower. Gustave has designed the tower in such a way, that every worn out individual part, can be replaced easily. It is interesting to know, that the massive windstorm in 1999 damaged many Paris monuments, but no harm came to this wonder tower. .The construction was only meant to last for the duration of the Exposition, but it still stands today, despite all protests from contemporary artists who feared the construction would be the advent of structures without 'individuality ' and despite the many people who feared that this huge 'object ' would not fit into the architecture of Paris. Today, there is no such aversion anymore among the Parisians, and one could not imagine Paris without the Eiffel Tower, in fact it has become the symbol of the City of Light.…
