Parents Are the Best Teachers

Nowadays, many parents try their best to let their children go to the best school and be taught by the best teachers. But what does the word “teacher” mean? Based on the Cambridge advanced learner’s dictionary, teacher is the one whose job is to teach in a school or college. In my point of view, a teacher can be anyone who gives you knowledge, experience and good advices and parents are certainly the best teachers.

It is simple to find out how important parents are for children. Foster parents brought up the famous Marilyn Monroe because her own mother had to be admitted in a mental home and her father never gave her his name. This total lack of parental guidance made hers a life of humiliation, insult and torture throughout her childhood and adolescence. Even when she was a top star in Hollywood, memories of a disturbed childhood continued to haunt her. When she was 38, she committed suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills.

On the other hand, we have the example of Karl Friedrich Gauss, who is noted for his wide-ranging contributions to physics, particularly the study of electromagnetism. Gauss’ mother had been teaching him numbers at the age of two. His father had played calculation games with him. Furthermore, Gauss had an educated uncle who taught him sophisticated math at an early age.

But how can parents teach their children really well? As a research pointed out, people remember 90% of what they do, 75% of what they see and 20% of what they hear. Therefore, a child will be easy to learn about the respect the old if he sees his parents always express their admiration to his grandmother or even an old woman in the street. A father, who wakes up late, will never be able to teach his children to wake up early. A mother, who lies all the time, cannot expect her children to be honest in their speech. Parents, who are disordered and undisciplined, will not realize the importance of teaching their children to be orderly and disciplined.

In general, teachers who teach us in schools and colleges are educators. They are necessary for the formal education of all children. But they are no substitute for parents. They never can replace parents in the shaping of the child’s character, life and future.

By definition, a teacher is someone who provides educational instruction and communicates lifelong lessons. To me, teachers are much more than that. Teachers can touch base on topics you normally wouldn’t find in a text book. The purpose of education is not to fill the minds of children with facts, but to teach them how to think for themselves. Teachers can inspire children to be proud of who they are and help them overcome their adversities. I have chosen to go into this field because I want to help get children ready for an important part of their lives. Watching my son grow and having the privilege of being able to see how his young mind is starting to put pieces together has made me want to be a part of that for all young…

One of the great paradoxes in life is trying to impart wisdom that you’ve garnered in your own life to others while letting them retain their own identity. I have found in my own life, as many others have found in theirs, that it can be difficult to learn vicariously through another person, rather than having to learn from your own life experiences. Still though, there is probably not a single person who would say that if they had the knowledge and wisdom that they currently have at a young age, would not do some things differently. As such, every parent faces the difficult conundrum of trying to pass down to their children that which they have learned in their life in a way that is both relevant and convincing but also allows for the fact that their children are going to have to learn many of these lessons for themselves.…

Marilyn did not grow up with a silver spoon in her mouth, as one would expect of a Hollywood starlet. Her childhood was actually quite the opposite. Marilyn Monroe was born, Norma Jean Mortensen, to Gladys Baker and a father that she would never meet. According to “Marilyn’s Early Life” by pop-culture historian Susan Doll, Marilyn spent her early childhood as a victim of her mother’s emotional turmoil until 1935 when her mother suffered a nervous breakdown and Marilyn was separated from her and sent to the Hollygrove Orphan Home. She spent two years there, before being placed into the foster care system, where she recounts being physically and sexually abused.…

There are many things parents should teach their children, but I think the most important things children should be taught are how to forgive, how to respect themselves and others, and how to be a good citizen to society. The most important thing parents should teach their children is how to forgive. Children today grow up hating people that hurt them because they don’t know how to forgive. Forgiving the people that hurt them will set their soul free and allow them to forget about everything and help them move on. They will not hold any grudges because they will know the right thing to do. The next important thing parents should teach their children is how to respect themselves and others. Children who have respect for themselves grow up and respect everyone else no matter who they are or what they do. For example, I had never respected anyone that did drugs because they didn’t respect me. I started respecting them once my mom talked to me and told me I couldn’t control what they do or how they do it. So I said to myself, “Who am I to judge them anyway?” God is the only person that can judge them. I have to most highly respect for everyone now. The least important thing parents should teach their children is how to be a good citizen to society. Every time I go outside I have to clean up behind other people children because they throw paper in our yard. Children will walk by everyday and throw it in our yard if I didn’t fuss at them. Sometimes they run by our house screaming, yelling, and disturbing our peace. At night time, they even knock on our door and run away when we go to the door. My mom say they just don’t know any better, but it makes me mad. All in all, parents who teach their children how to forgive, respect, and how to be a good citizen to society will help their children grow up to be good men and women to help change the world and make it a better…

The qualities of good parents are very important in everyday life. A good parent is a good model for their children. A good parent wouldn’t smoke cigarettes or drink beer in front of their children, neither screaming his wife or her husband in front of them because they could be teaching them something wrong. Some children have the same attitude of their parents because they are still young and they analyze their parents as a model to follow. That’s why good parents should have the quality of being good models or good teachers for teaching their child good manners and to recognize what is wrong and right.…
