“What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person.” is a strong quote written in the book Paper Towns by John Green. Quentin, the shy boy gets the night of a lifetime when Margo his neighbor and easily the most popular girl in their entire high school, finds him late at night to help her in her scheme to prank multiple friends of hers who have betrayed her. Not everything went as Quentin thought though when he awakes the next day to find out that Margo is missing. It is not until then that he realizes the extent to his feeling for her and with the help of a few friends, sets out to follow her hidden clues in order to find the girl of his dreams. When reading the book, you can easily get wrapped up in the words and intensity but within all this chaos the theme of identity shines so brightly. This theme is specifically shown through the moment when Margo claims that she’s not pretty, people’s reactions after she disappears, and Quentin’s attitude towards her disappearance.
Margo starts the beginning of the fourth paragraph off in a way you wouldn’t expect. When her and Quentin are talking about a situation that went down between Margo, her friend Becca, and her boyfriend, he says that she's hotter than Becca without even realizing it. Margo’s response of “That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people would want to be around someone because they’re

The central focus of the book Paper Towns by John Green is friendship. This has been proven many times throughout the book especially when Margo feels lonely even though she is one of the most popular people at her local high school and Quentin spent a month looking for Margo with his friends. Firstly, Margo has stated that she felt lonely, this seems odd because it has also been said that Margo is one of the most popular students at her school. A quote that proves this is “Yeah, well, I was always kind of friends with a lot of people”.…

During school, the educators put Mitch on the spot, center him out front of the entire class and compare him to his “perfect” older brother Clifford. “An identity would seem to be arrived at by the way in which the person faces and uses his experience.” This quote, by James Baldwin, reveals that a person can discover who they really are by what actions they do. For example, helping people and assisting their needs, will result in a discovery of an identity of a nice person. If one goes around beating helpless people up, then one will discover itself to be rude and mean. This relates to “Whirligig” because of Brent’s actions. Brent travels across the country constructing whirligigs to spread happiness throughout America. By him doing these kind deeds, he exposes his true self identity. Brent Bishop, a teenaged boy in Paul Fleischman’s novel Whirligig, undergoes a dramatic change in self-identity during his journey through America.…

She has a whole record set collection and no one knew of her interest in music and she carries a black notebook everywhere but once again, no one knows what it is. Another odd side of Margo is her habit of running away leaving vague clues. In her previous run away, she left the letters, M, I, S, and P hinting that she left for Mississippi, and the time that she spent the night in Disney World, she left a Minnie Mouse doll on her bed. Later on she explains how she is a paper girl being all fake and needing to travel around instead of being stuck in one…
