In the story Paper Towns, written by John Green, the main characters are Quentin
Jacobsen, Margo Roth Spiegelman, Ben Starling, Marcus ”Radar”, and Lacey Pemberton. This story takes place in Orlando. In the beginning of the story, Quentin and his neighbour Margo, both young children, find a dead person in a subdivision called Jefferson Park. The story then flash forwards to Quentin and Margo as high schoolers who have drifted apart over the years. On one random night, Margo shows up at Quentin's house and they go out pulling pranks on people that have wronged Margo. At some point of the night, they go to the higher floors of Suntrust bank building and sit there for awhile. That is when Margo tells Quentin she despises their town, calling it a “Paper Town” with “Paper people” who are all fake. The night ends with Quentin being all excited how things will start to change and they’ll finally be close again, only to find out Margo is absent at school the next day and that she has left home. He then sets out with his friends, Ben Radar and Lacey to look for Margo. The main conflict in the book is that Quentin pictures Margo as a troubled girl and needed someone to save her, he idealizes her as the perfect girl. Throughout the story he believes that Margo left clues to have him look for her to prove that he wants her that bad in his life. At the end of the story, Quentin finally finds her only to get yelled at by Margo, telling them they are disturbances and she never wanted Quentin to find her

It was a lame string, for sure, but it was the only one I had left, and every paper girl needs at least one string, right?” (58). Margo’s use of the word “paper girl” suggests that she is self-aware.
