Pacific Rim 2 Analysis
The film director and producer - Guillermo del Toro continues to be besieged with bad news, as the American film studio - Universal Pictures has announced it's pulling Pacific Rim 2 off its release calendar completely but the American musical comedy film - Pitch Perfect 3 is moving back two weeks to fill Pacific Rim 2's old slot.

A Universal representative said in a statement, "Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having Pacific Rim 2, the sequel to 2013's Pacific Rim, which triggered a $411 million at the global box office, be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves." "To this end, a settlement was made to hold up the production and release of Pacific Rim 2 so that the creative team can continue in its vigorous attempt to

We're still on it."

While Universal Pictures announced the cancellation of the released date of the 2013 American science fiction monster film sequel - Pacific Rim, Pitch Perfect 3 that stars Anna Kendrick as Beca and Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy, on the other hand was moved to open earlier than scheduled. It is now slated on August 4, 2017, instead of July 21, 2017.

The old release date, pitted Pitch Perfect 3 against the next film of the English-American film director and screenwriter, Christopher Nolan - Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and an untitled animated movie from 20th Century Fox. The new date for Pitch Perfect 3, foresee less competition, as no other films are currently scheduled for August 4.

Pitch Perfect 3 seems to be the right choice for Universal at the moment, as the first film was a surprise hit, earning $115 million worldwide, and the sequel has made nearly two and a half times gross from the first flick.

Often, movie studios push sequels after the success of their predecessor even when there’s clearly no need for it. Through writing my pitch, I’ve learnt several things about the film industry. I’ve realised that a pitch is the very first thing we need to do before proceeding to any preproduction or production tasks and that the purpose of a pitch is to attract development finance to pay for the production of the film. Therefore, a pitch should be marketable and interesting. As pitching is commonly known as “selling the film”, there are several things I need to consider in my pitch so that it can attract the investors and they would green-light the project. Some of them include the names of actors and actresses to create star power, a brief plot synopsis, budgeting values, genre and the target audience. I’ve also included a similar film to give a clearer picture to the investors what my film is like. The logline is especially important to draw the investors’ attention, as it effectively works as an advertising tagline to increase the viewership of my film. To create star power, I’ve included the names of a few well-known actors and actresses including Josh Duhamel and Emma Watson, so that the investors will be likely to buy into the film. I’ve also included a small paragraph of the plot synopsis to give the storyline of my film, so that the investors would have an idea who my target audience are.…

If we use straight PV analysis of all the movies, by using the PV of Inflow at Yr4 and PV of Negative cost at Yr3, we can calculate the NPV of each movie at Yr0. Since the total NPV for all 6 studios is negative, we will not purchase all the sequel rights if we use this simple NPV analysis. However, MCA Universal and TCFOX have positive NPV’s and hence we are willing to pay up to $4.47M for each sequel of MCA Universal and $6.08M for each sequel of The Walt Disney Company.…
