Overcrowded Classrooms
Every year on the first day of school, hundreds of new freshmen attend school. Between the new freshmen and transfer students, the first couple of days are a mess. It usually takes the counselors a couple of weeks to fit all of the new students into classrooms, but they do find a way to do it.

One of the causes of overcrowded classrooms are students that don't show up to registration. If every student showed up for registration, the counselors would be able to figure out where to put all of the students before school started, so that the first day wouldn't be as hectic. Another cause is students that are bused in from Los Angeles. Although it is a positive way for students that live in L.A. to seemingly get a better education; limiting the number of students that are bused in would help out the situation a little bit more. Open enrollment students also are a factor in overcrowded classrooms. For example, if the number of students is increasingly rising each year, they should bring the number of students that are allowed to open enroll down even

One’s introduction to high school is the foundation for higher level education and work until retirement. If the foundation is not set right, it can cause everything else to collapse. In an effort to regulate this and to help everyone succeed, schools throughout the nation are restructuring their education system by putting incoming freshmen in a separate setting from the rest of the community. While this seems like a good idea, it has some serious faults. In order to help the incoming high schoolers succeed, they need to get exposure to the setting…

Through my short 7 weeks here at St. Olaf I have had many different experiences. First, when I arrived for football camp on August 12th. Initially I felt uncomfortable, out of place in somewhere new where I really didn’t know anyone. On the other hand it was intriguing, such a beautiful place on a hill, where you feel on top of the world. Then, it was time to say bye to my parents for the first time in 18 years. That made everything more uncomfortable and made me feel more confused, which I am sure every freshman felt. Starting to meet the rest of the freshman and make friends was easier then I thought, because all of us were new here, and looking for people to talk to. Throughout a long-lasting two and a half weeks of camp friendships started…

The biggest challenge for many of us is how to balance our studies, work and family demands. While we want happy fulfilling lives outside of family, work and school, we have to make personal sacrifices in order to be successful in life. Since time is precious, keeping a balance between three worlds can be a challenge. Fortunately, with proper planning, balance is possible. Every day, I have to make choices and manage my time incredibly well in order to be able to balance my online studies, my work and family demands. In my opinion family demands, work and studies balance are a process, not a static achievement. So, it is important to make the decisions selecting careers and jobs, timing children, allocating roles and responsibilities etc, that will provide the opportunity for balance. The real task of balance takes place on a weekly and daily basis, even from hour to hour .…

but not only enhance the system itself but help the students as well. Having more classes offered means there will be less students in one class, which allows students to have fewer distractions. Having less students in a class offers more one on one time with the students and the teacher. Students then have a better chance at getting their questions answered and just asking for help in general. Having that extra time with the teacher allows the teacher to better understand the student's strengths and weaknesses and can then help in the areas in which that particular student may need more help in. As a result students would gradually improve on their academic work and further their success in such class. Creating such a change would enhance much more than the system itself , it would enhance the students and teachers experience at school creating an environment that students will want to learn…

This is exactly what it was like walking in the first day of middle school. I was extremely overwhelmed. The number of people in one school was in itself overwhelming. Well, coming from a school with a total of around 50 to a school of over 500, students “overwhelmed” is an understatement. Once we started introducing ourselves, people started to come up to me and make conversation. All things considered I stepped out of my comfort zone, and it surprised me. All my new classmates were nice, or so I thought.…

My first day of college went a little like this. Coming in as a freshman I was scared and nervous. I arrived at a small building consisting of two floors and about 20 classrooms. I wasn’t really worried about getting lost, but how can I get lost in a small building anyways. After rooming the hallways for a few minutes I head to class. My class was an average of 22 students. I walk in to take a seat; it was so quite I was able to hear a pin drop. It took me by surprise when some one finally spoke. He began talking about the class they had…
