S.E. Hinton shows positive change in The Outsiders novel through the character of Johnny, by showing how a hoodlum became a hero.…
Throughout history, there have been an incalculable number of heroes; that can be through reality or fictitious. From viewing the clips from this assignments and reading various articles regarding heroism, there are multiple aspects that determine exactly what a hero should be. In regards to the Spiderman video, Aunt May explains that a hero is someone that is courageous, self-sacrificing, and sets examples for others. Likewise, an article I read describes a hero as someone who is courageous, selfless, humble, patient, and caring. In my opinion, a hero is an individual who cares more about the life of others than themselves; they would do anything in their power to protect others as well as the world around them.…
Heroes come in many forms. Heros are not hard to find and people can consider anyone as a hero, but people views of what a hero is varies in several ways. In the Anglo-Saxon period, a warrior by the name of Beowulf conquers numerous things in his life. He defeats many enemies and is known for all he accomplishes. Martin Luther King Jr. is another hero who is known for his role as a black history movement activist.…
What is a hero?A hero is someone who can save someone else’s life or teach them things that can change their life. Three people that inspire me or made me want to make a difference in the world are Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. , and Rosa Parks. They are my heros because they done things that they believe in and that they thought were fair because they wanted to make sure everyone had rights to do whatever they want whenever they wanted to do it. I believe that everyone has a voice in the world and if u believe in something u should do it no matter what the risks are.…
The quote in question is “All good is destined to be defeated.” The quote means, for every good guy, there is a bad guy. For every hero, there is a villain. Everyone who has ever tried to do something good has been destined to be stopped. The quote not only speaks for literature, but for everything. If you look from now, all the way back to ancient times, you will see examples of this in many works of literature. The book The Outsiders is a good representation of the quote.…
To be a hero you have to be strong enough to stand up for what you want, no matter who or what gets in the way. Several people have done inspiring things to accomplish what they wanted. Strong heroes like Anne Frank, Jackie Robinson, and Helen Keller had to fight hard for a long time to reach their goal.…
The Outsiders, directed by Francis Ford Coppola was released in 1983. Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) is a greaser whose parents were killed in a car accident. He and his friends: Johnny (Ralph Macchio), Dally (Matt Dillon), Two-Bit (Emilio Estevez), and Steve (Tom Cruise), and brothers, Darry (Patrick Swayze) and Soda (Rob Lowe), are always getting in fights with a gang called the Socs. One night, best friend Johnny, are attacked by Socs. The Socs almost drown Ponyboy, and Johnny, defending Ponyboy, stabs Bob (a Soc). Pony, and Johnny find a church to hide out in. A bunch of little kids are trapped inside the church which caught on fire, and Pony, Johnny, and Dally save them. Ponyboy gets out ok, Dally burns his arm, but a huge piece of wood falls on Johnny, breaking his back, and burning him badly. At the end, two of the greasers end up losing their life and both gangs still fight and hate each other. I think that The Outsiders was decent, at best. Please spare yourself save the hour and…
A hero? I like it which one? Batman. NO!!! Not them i’m talking of ordinary people heroes like Martin Luther King Jr he did wonderful things he did like Lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott, he is a hero. Everyone could be a hero if they try and go outside and be one but to be a hero but you're not likely going to be needing n super strength or strength, or work out and get strong muscles and also get some super massive overpowered impossible to destroy weapons and an army of people with that weapons to save a city or something to be a hero either way just destroy some bad guy or boycott a company that is being racist. But my opinion of a hero is a different story……
There are many different kinds of heroes. They do not have to be superheroes. Opportunities for heroism are found everywhere; they can even occur in everyday life. An example of a great everyday hero is African-American Rosa Parks.…
(1)Imagine being just a young teenager who has lost almost everything and is put through pain everyday. (2)When you are that young, like Ponyboy Curtis from The Outsiders, you’re most likely naïve when it comes to pain. Many teenagers think once they are in agony, their life is over. However, even though he lost so many loved ones, like his parents, he stayed positive and met the most remarkable people who brightened up his life; the Greasers. (3)In this novel, it shows how even if you think you are alone; it gets better no matter what.…
For some people comic book heros come to mind when they hear the word hero. For others they think of police officers, firemen, and soldiers. A hero for me is someone who will run into unknown danger to help others. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary the word “hero” is defined as, “A person that is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.”…
“Gulp Gulp” that's the sound of you drowning, you think your dieing. Then a miracle happens but soon after you realize there's a guy laying half dead. What happened? As a class we read the “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. Some of us think we should read the story, others not so much. Here's why!…
Heroism and heroes are two things that no matter what, will always be around, people will always admire heroes, and wish they could be them. While there is an endless supply of heroes from the beginning of time, there are only a few definitions, yet over time that definition has changed to an extent. Dictionary.reference.com defines hero as: “A man of distinguished courage of ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.” Campbell’s definition, “someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself… The hero performs a courageous act in battle and saves lives,” varies quite a bit from the twenty first century definition. In both Joseph Campbell’s definition and dictionary.com’s definition, several characteristics of heroes are laid out before us: courageousness, dedication, and selflessness. These can be considered the three pillars of heroism; these characteristics add character and depth to a hero, other than somebody who performed a glorious act. Courage, the biggest pillar, are the building blocks of a hero, without courage, you simply cannot be an admired hero. Courage allows you…
In the young adult fiction story entitled Outsiders written by S.E Hinton is an outstanding book that focuses on many themes that eventually become extremely meaningful towards the end of the book, and one of those themes are that friends are like family. The reason I say this because in the book, a mob of friends stick with each other through thick and thin, and what’s significant about this gang is no matter what the situation may be, the support and care each one gives is exactly like if they were related by blood.…
“Every city in the world always has a gang, a street gang, or the so-called outcasts.” – Jimi Hendrix. The tone, purpose, and gangs in the Outsiders and the article share some traits, and differ with others. For example, they share the theme of violence among youth. However, the view of the gangs on violence differs.…
