Racism in Othello is able to be studied because of the contextual time period, and how human response changes in different contexts. Racism is one of the more broad viewing points in Othello, there is alot of points and techniques that can be observed in this theme. Iago has excused himself of his illdoings towards othello becuase of othello's racial status. "I hate the moor and it is thought abroad that he twixt my sheets" Iago uses the word moor, tp directly reveal that he is expressing his discontent to specifically othello's race, he uses it as dorogotory term, as though he has right to villify othello just because of his racial status.
Iago has been influenced to corrupt othello, not only because he is racist but also because of society, humans in the elizabethan era, believed in the devil, and black magic, and thought that black people were the main abusers of these horrible aspects of their lives, so because of this Iago's society has reassured him about his ill doings towards Othello. Brabantio reffering to Othello's realtionship with Desdemona. "She, in spite of nature,Of years, of country, credit, every thing,To fall in love with what she fear'd to look on!" Brabantio saying "in spite of nature" this comment refers to his thoughts on love with a moor is unatural and should be frowned upon, this quote creates tension for the audience, because it is one of the first things we hear brabantio say on the topic of his daughters relationship. It is also a reference to the elizabethan society, and their thoughts on black people, brabantio had only a directly reffered to othello's race and nothing else about him, it is blatently racist.
Jealousy has been presented as a regularly seen perspective. Jealousy in Othello, is easily seen in the play, especially through Iago. Micheal Cassio was subject to a lot of Iago's jealousy and had a large influence on how Iago acted throughout the play "As masterly as he:

    Since back in Shakespeare days, Moors were Arab Muslim or Spaniards that were looked down upon in society. They were treated like how the African American community was 70 years ago. Iago was a white man while Othello was a Moor. But Shakespeare never clearly stated what ethnicity Othello truly was. So the director of the movie had a chance to interpret Othello's ethnicity to where the audience can truly understand the emotions and symbolic meaning between Othello and Iago.     Race is very important in the play. Othello was a moor. In simplest terms he was a man of color. His race is what set him apart from the other characters. Also Othello is the only character of color which automatically set him inside. Being that he is a military general (a position not offered to black men) a lot of the characters don’t like him, and a lot of characters described him negatively because to them he was just a moor. But others respect and admire him because of his accomplishments. Iago was not his biggest fan so of coarse he said things that were not meant to be nice. “Iago: Even now, now very now, an old black ram is tupping your white ewe. Arise, arise; Awake the snorting citizens with the bell. Or else the devil will make a grandsire if you arise I say!” (Act 1, Scene 1) Here Iago is upset that a moor is with a white woman. So he tells Desdemona’s father about the relationship. But all throughout what he is saying he is making racial slurs. In response to this Desdemona’s father says “BRABANTIO: She, in spite of nature, Of years, of country, credit, every thing, To fall in love with what she fear'd to look on! It is a judgment maim'd and most imperfect That will confess perfection so could err Against all rules of nature.” (Act 1, Scene 3) which means he feels that Desdemona’s feelings for Othello is wrong. It is unnatural since he is black and she is white. Even Othello himself describes his color as being something bad at one point. “Othello: All my fond love thus do I blow to heaven. 'Tis gone. Arise, black vengeance, from thy hollow cell! (Act 3, Scene 3) Throughout the play there are many comments as to Othello’s race. I personally think the whole play is based around two things his race in comparison to everyone else’s, and his race with Desdemona’s race because he is a “moor” and every one else is not.     Beginning with the character Iago, one can see his jealousy fuel a villainous plot to demonstrate the dangers of the emotion. While explaining his hatred for Cassio to Roderigo, Iago complains, “One Michael Cassio . . . that never set a squadron in the field, nor the division of a battle knows . . . had the election” (Shakespeare 5). The conflict evident in Iago’s words is used by Shakespeare to bring forth the destructive nature of jealousy. From the get go, Shakespeare establishes Iago as the villain and Othello as the victim and in doing so, pushes the audience towards feeling sympathetic towards Othello and feeling hatred towards and rooting against Iago. Additionally, the conflict Shakespeare uses characterizes the character of Iago as jealous, which also contributes to molding the audience’s opinions towards him and a development of jealousy’s notoriety. While Shakespeare first introduces the conflict between Iago and Cassio as one over status and power towards the beginning of Othello, he brings the audience’s attention to Iago’s conflict with the Moor by having Iago exclaim, “I hate the Moor, and it is thought abroad that twixt my sheets he has done my office” (Shakespeare 54). Again, in this quote, Shakespeare uses the conflict between Iago and Othello to paint Iago as overly jealous man. The goal of these portrayals was to shine light on jealousy and the dangers that come with it.
