Othello Analysis
Throughout the play of othello iago used several techniques to urge what he wanted and one way or another he somehow almost continually got what he needed. His techniques were that of an everyday sneaky, conniving person, who continually got people to trust him, except the person who was closest to him. However the most overall techniques he used were gaining the trust of people. That was the number one technique, and from gaining their trust he may branch far from that and then he may manipulate the people he was playing into thinking that he was on their side even once he may well be on the other side. This can be illustrated from the beginning through the character iago. Iago is evil and manipulative and uses animal imagery from the very starting of the play. Iago decides to inform Brabantio regarding his daughter, Desdemona,leaving him and marrying the Moor, who is Othello. iago says to him, “…You’ll have your daughter covered with a barbary horse." Iago desires Othello to seem more evil, and needs Brabantio to take action against Othello. Iago’s immorality is seen from the very starting of the play, and is obvious throughout it. His devilish ways that are particularly illustrated by his use of beast imagery. In the starting of the play, Othello was seen to be a lot completely different from iago. Othello was a noble gentleman and was famed for his greatness. He never compared people to animals or used animals in his everyday language. This changed once iago began to manipulate and misinform him. As Othello’s character changed from good to evil, he began to use animal imagery. When iago planted a lot of lies regarding Desdemona and her relationships with Cassio, Othello’s lieutenant, Othello said to himself, “O curse of marriage, that we can call these delicate creatures ours and not their appetites! I had rather be a toad and live upon the vapour of the dungeon than keep a corner in the thing i love for others’ uses." in this quote Othello is talking very negatively regarding his married woman
