Oskar Schindler Hero

According to Merriam Webster dictionary a hero is, "a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities or a person who is greatly admired." Oskar Schindler does not fit this definition at the beginning of the movie. Heroes commonly experience a classic call to action. Oskar Schindler's call to action was at the beginning of the war, however he did not truly take action until he began to form emotional attachments towards the workers he was hiring that he had hired to originally just benefit himself. Throughout the war Oskar Schindler slowly evolved into a hero, putting others before himself and in doing so saved many lives. When World War Two began Oskar Schindler was not the man he would be when the war would come to an end. At the start of the war Oskar Schindler was your average greedy businessman. He did not care about people and even was cheating on his own wife. He is originally only hiring Jewish people in order to give them goods to trade on the black market so that he can make out by getting a greater profit for the free labor. He has no intention of giving handouts or helping people. A girl even comes to him begging him to hire her parents and he screams at her for assuming he would even be willing to help her. However, one can argue that anyone can be a hero is they try hard enough. Some people can also say that people can be destined for greatness with the potential to become a hero. All cases can be true, but in Oskar Schindler's case he was put in a position where he could sit back and watch as people were sent to theirs deaths or he could do something about it and make a difference. Oskar Schindler is a name we remember for how he answered his call to action. Not everyone can say they would do what he did because no one can understand what it was like to be in his shoes.
