Ortho Student Reflection
In the first few weeks at my job site, I have seen general clinics and multiple surgries (colonoscopy and spine pain). I have learned how to examine x-rays, talk to patients, and help prep patients for surgery. I actually switch between Orthopedics and general surgrey because Ortho doesnt always have something going on. I am excited to learn how to remove stitches in Ortho and also see more surgries in General Surgrey. My job site has been more than what I was expecting. I thought I was just going to examine patients however I get to see surgries, procedures, and learn how to do multiple skills.
An obstacle for me could be not being comftorable at a job and CP would help me overcome that. The people I work with are so nice and welcoming even

Those in the healthcare profession are respected, hardworking individuals who went above and beyond to prove themselves capable of helping others in the greatest way possible. My career goals are very straightforward. I’ve taken several steps in high school to accomplish these goals by being well disciplined in my studies, and participating in a Health Careers Internship Program. This program offers me a variety of opportunities that make me a more applicable in a healthcare setting. I’ve learned how to build a strong résumé and cover letter, and how do professional interviews well. We also get the chance to observe and participate in a medical environment. I’ll be shadowing with Dr. Steve Carr at Northern Star Therapy and learn the basics of physical therapy. I’ve done also done volunteer work in a Geriatric setting, at the St. Benedict nursing home in St. Cloud. My plans following high school are to attend the University of Minnesota in the College of Biological Sciences. My hopes are to complete my undergraduate in there in the Pre-Medicine program, attend graduate school, and specialize in a currently undecided field of…

An obstacle I have encountered was my AP Calculus class. At the beginning of the course it was very difficult as my prior mathematics teacher had informed me. Besides having a big transition in the level of math, there was more to the class. I had failed the first test and was ready to drop the class. However, I was not ready to give up so I decided to keep the class and work harder. I dealt this this problem by taking more time out of my day to go over the material being learned. This meant I had to put in more time along with some of my peers that helped organize a small study group. This was an important factor in order to be successful in the class because the information being learned was difficult.…

The career I chose is perioperative nursing. Perioperative nurses are an important part of the surgical team. Typically, perioperative nurses work serve as either a scrub nurse, circulating nurse, or a RN first assistant. They care for the patient having surgery by assessing and planning the nursing care the patients receive before, during, and after surgery. Much of the ambulatory surgery is increasingly being performed in a physician’s office, this is the fastest growing part of outpatient procedures. Physical stamina and mental endurance are important attributes for this job. Perioperative nursing was formerly referred to as “operating nurse”, but as the responsibilities expanded, the term perioperative became more appropriate.…

I love working with people and on computers. So I looked for a career where I can do both. Deciding to become a Medical Billing Specialist was the perfect choice for me. When I first entered into the medical field, I became a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). I love doing my job because I was able to help others in need. As time passed I knew I wanted to do more but I just didn’t know what that was. Then one day I went to the doctor’s office with a patient for a routine checkup and I started talking to one of the medical assistants. She asked me if I liked my job. I told her that I love what I did but I wanted something more. I also mentioned that I had went to school for basic computer training before I went to school for CNA. Then she said that I should think about going to school for Medical Billing and Coding.…

Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…
