Orphenadrine Research Paper
According to Sweetman (2002), orphenadrine is a tertiary amine antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) with actions and uses similar to those of benzhexol. It also has weak antihistaminic and local anaesthetic properties. Antimuscarinic drugs are defined by, A Dictionary of Nursing (2008) as those inhibiting the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter in the parasympathetic nervous system. These drugs relax smooth muscle, decrease the secretion of saliva, sweat and digestive juice, and dilate the pupil of the eye. As mentioned already orphenadrine is used as the hydrochloride in the symptomatic treatment of parkinsonism.

The amine group on the p-aminophenol reacted with the center oxygen atom on the acetic anhydride to form an amide. We reacted 0.210g of p-aminophenol with 0.240ml of acetic anhydride in the presence of heat, and then cooled the solution in an ice bath until crystals formed.
