Fuck-Boy

“Shut up fuckboy,” my best friend Rickey said to my irritating friend Brandon. As everyone was laughing at what Rickey was saying, Brandon was sitting in his chair with a stale look on his face. Then Brandon replied back by saying, “I’m far from being one of those.” Rickey just said, “Okay.” My friends like talking trash. They love calling each other a fuckboy which come from the word fuck. From the Dutch word for mocking, to scratching an itch, to sex and screwing up. In the 21th century, the word fuck can be used for a lot of different reasons, like fuckboy, it is a new hip word to express yourself when you are upset and its so catchy that is going to be use a lot in the future.

Even though people love to say the word fuck and say it on a daily basis, many don’t know where the word comes from. There have been many theories of who originally came up with the word. One theory is that it originated in the 15 century and has a Dutch meaning, to mock. In Germany ficken was another word for “fuck.” In 1558, they compared the Middle High German, ficken, meaning to rub, with the modern German word, ficken, which means to rub, itch, or scratch. Also the German word, ficken, means to have sexual intercourse. The Germans don’t use the word like how Americans do. They tend to say ficken when it only comes down to having sexual intercourse. Even though the Germans had their own meaning of the word “fuck”, the Norwegian word, fukka, and Swedish word, fokka, also means to copulate. Although there were many alternative theories that had to do with the origin of this word, the word has cultivated over a long period of time, (OED).

In the early usage of this word, it had to be one of the most secretive words at the time. People only said the word when it came down to having sexual intercourse, to cheat, or a sign of frustration. In 1784, Prince William let in King William IV and said, “Oh, for the

Throughout the world there are many different views on the use of swear words in everyday life. From evening family slot times to late night tv shows, cursing in society is slowly becoming part of our “normal” day to day language. Whether or not it is accepted is something different. Society has often labeled swearing one of two things: as an extreme type of language only used by the uneducated or the greatest use of power words that should be used by any and all people. Though swearing is offensive to many, it is proven to be a major extension of our vocabulary and should be tolerated and understood to a greater extent.…

Post civil rights movement blacks took the word from racists by changing it from nigger to nigga. Nigga is supposed to mean friend. The word was supposedly reinvented and meant something entirely different. People were just conforming with each other and lost their way when they came up with this. Then blacks took pride in being “niggas”, a variation of a word they just spent generations fighting. “Nigger” oppressed black people for hundreds of years, people died fighting against that slur, just because an ‘A’ was added at the end, and all of a sudden it’s…

While reading the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the term “nigger” tends to constantly appear. The word first appears in chapter two when Huck says, “Miss Watson’s big nigger, named Jim, was setting in the kitchen door” (Twain 7). After that the term keeps reappearing all throughout the novel. As the novel unravels, it becomes apparent that Mark Twain is not using the term in an offensive manner. The term “nigger” has been around since at least 1619. The denotation of the term is a black person or a member of the dark-skinned race as in Webster’s Dictionary. Sometime during the 1800s the connotation of the term turned into something rather offensive.…

The original meaning of “profanity” was restricted to blasphemy. “Blasphemy” was an offensive attack on religion and religious figures, which included swearing in the name of God. As centuries passed, profanity became more distinct from blasphemy. Although blasphemy still refers to language that defames God, a religion or a religious figure, profanity has evolved to include expressions with vulgar, racist and sexual themes.…

In the article, South Park and the Transformation of Meaning, written by Marcus Schulzke, Schulzke analyses “The F Word” episode of the satirical, and controversial show. In his analysis, Schulzke focuses on language, and the different interpretations that can be placed on the word “fag," emphasized throughout this episode of the show. The show focuses on a group of bikers who are desperate for attention and parade around town loudly on their Harley’s Davidson motorcycles (Schulzke, 2012). However, the townspeople, in particular a group of kids, find this behavior simply obnoxious and make it their mission to get rid of these bikers (Schulzke, 2012). They proceed to call the bikers “fags” throughout, which is the premise for the entire episode,…

Language is central to every single culture on Earth. Not only is it the human race’s main method of communication, it also is the only truly accurate way to record the human experience with integrity. Therefore, language shows most everything about who we are, from one’s homeland to education and everything in between. For instance, in Firoozeh Dumas’ The ‘F Word,’ a young Iranian girl is judged for who she is without any of her contemporaries taking a moment to figure out why.…

    Elizabeth Austin Response

Austin first states that the word should be deleted from our use, but before that we must remove the people who use the word. “Let’s get rid of it. Scholars of social norms say all that’s necessary to remove offensive language from public speech is a critical mass of people willing to take up cudgels against it.” (Austin 6). There are tons of people who use the word and are not willing to get rid of it because they are so used to it. It is one of their words for colloquial language. Austin then describes how women went through different kind of words that described them. ““Produce and animals is what we were,” she recalls. “We were ‘chicks’ and ‘lambs’ and birds’ and bitches,’ and there was always the infamous ‘cherry’”” (Austin 6). She relates this to women because women were able to change the social norm of being called different things. Austin shows that since women can change the social norm, then society can get rid of the “F” word.…

    Basic History of a Fetish

The historical origins of BDSM are obscure. There are anecdotal reports of people willingly being bound or whipped, as a prelude to or substitute for sex, going back to the fourteenth century. The medieval phenomenon of courtly love in all of its slavish devotion and ambivalence has been suggested by some writers to be a precursor of BDSM. Some sources claim that BDSM as a distinct form of sexual behaviour originated at the beginning of the eighteenth century when Western civilization began medically and legally categorizing sexual behaviour. There are reports of brothels specializing in flagellation as early as 1769, and John Cleland's novel Fanny Hill, published in 1749, mentions a flagellation scene. Other sources give a broader definition citing BDSM-like behavior in earlier times and other cultures, such as the medieval flagellants and the physical ordeal rituals of some Native American societies.…
