Google is an American multinational corporation that specializes in internet-related products. Their mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. (Stross, Randall, 2008) Google is committed to hiring people who are smart and determined, and favor ability over experience. Google employees (Googlers) hail from all walks of life and speak dozens of languages, and share common goals. Google headquarters is a corporate campus with a college like atmosphere that is relaxed and laid back. The college like atmosphere promotes an innovative culture that encourages employees to be creative and productive. Each employee is expected to be a hands-on contributor that feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions. The communication within the company is deeply rooted in its culture. Google’s physical environment is designed to promote communication throughout the company. Everything about the physical design of the company is connected to communication and its culture. Vice President of Google’s Real Estate and Workplace Services said “ Casual collisions is what we try and create in the work environment. You can’t schedule innovation, you can’t schedule idea generation and so when we think of our facilities around the world we’re really looking for little opportunities for engineers or for creative people to come together.” (Stross, Randall, 2008) Some of the rooms that have been created for Google employees include ski gondolas, pub-like meeting rooms, sidewalk café’s, nap pods. Hundreds of bikes and scooters are available for employees to make it easier to travel around the campus. Laptops and internet access are located almost everywhere around the campus so that employees are able to work in any kind of setting. Google also has purposely created very few

    The study of organizational behavior is importance in order to have a successful work performance. By most estimates, organizational emerged as a distinct field around the 1940s. However, its origins can be traced much further back in time. The Greek philosopher Plato wrote about the essence of leadership. Aristotle, another respected philosopher, addressed the topic of persuasive communication. The writings of sixteenth-century Italian philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli laid the foundation for contemporary work on organizational power and politics. In 1776, Adam Smith advocated a new form of organizational structure based of the division of labor. One hundred years later, German sociologist Max Weber wrote about rational organizations and initiated discussion of charismatic leadership. Soon after, Frederick Winslow Taylor introduced the systematic use of goal setting and rewards to motivate employees. In the 1920s, Elton Mayo and his colleagues conducted productivity studies at Western Electric’s Hawthorne plant. They reported that an informal organization; employees casually interacting with others; operated alongside the formal organization.
