Essay 3

Nowadays, it seems like people confront with more problems than ever before in history. This is because of stress that people have in daily lives: long hours that they work in different jobs, more percentage of people get divorced after marriage, more people are committing crime to find a way to make money, and bureaucracy that the Nation has brings major problems to different people. Whenever I walk outside of my apartment I see neighbors talking about their problems, or when I come to school students are talking about their problems dealing with different teachers. It seems like to me that life is filled up with problems now, and almost all of us confront with different problems in our life. Because I like to make new friends and build peace with people from different countries, races, or even religion, I always take steps to help my friends whenever I can with my best efforts. Knowing the value of friends and helping them whenever they are in need or confront with problems are the best way to build strong friendship. My best friend faced with major problem in his job and he did the right thing quitting it before something such as health problem happened to him. I met my best friend Jasur back in May 2010. He was a student in UIS, basically an International student which means he has more laws and regulations living with him compared to legal residents or citizens. Because he was struggling financially, he got a job at the mall at phone case kiosks to be a salesperson. After he started that job, his boss took him into his complete control. He was given about 60 hours of work schedule each week and was paid less, he was forced to stay until twelve in the morning packing or counting the shipments sometimes, and his boss was also using vulgar language towards him whenever he was there. My friend became very slow with his school getting his school work done, and he was

Human behavior in organizations is complex and often difficult to understand. Organizations have been described as clockworks in which human behavior is logical and rational, but they often seem like snake pits to those who work in them.1 The clockwork metaphor reflects an orderly, idealized view of organizational behavior devoid of conflict or dilemma because all the working parts (the people) mesh smoothly. The snake pit metaphor conveys the daily conflict, distress, and struggle in organizations. Each metaphor reflects reality from a different perspective—the organization’s versus the individual’s point of view. These metaphors reflect the complexity of human behavior, the dark side of which is seen in cases of air rage and workplace violence. On the positive side, the Gallup Organization’s Marcus Buckingham suggests that people’s psychological makeup is at the heart of the emotional economy.2 This chapter introduces organizational behavior. The first section provides an overview of human behavior in organizations, its interdisciplinary origins, and behavior in times of change. The second section presents an organizational context within which behavior occurs and briefly introduces the six focus companies used…

The Toy Research Society (TRS), a nonprofit organization, has been in existence for more than 70 years. The organization’s mission has remained the same during this time, but the membership, the use of the Society by nonmembers and the competitive landscape have changed substantially. Driven primarily by a board of directors and regional volunteer leaders, the Society has never had a formal leadership development philosophy. Now, the long-time president has retired, and TRS leaders are reflecting on how to prepare for the future, especially with increased calls for leadership role clarity and more delegation of work to members. As a member, you have the opportunity to develop the needed leadership strategy.…
