Findings & suggestions
The cement sector has played a pivotal role in reviving up the Indian economy by maintaining an impressive rate of growth in the last three to four years. In the calendar year 2008, the industry witnessed an imposing growth of 11.3 per cent as compared to 9.4 per cent in the preceding year, with capacity utilization well over 90 per cent. It could have been even higher, had infrastructure growth been up to the expected level. Housing sector has remained the largest source for cement demand.
