Orchestra Concert Review Sample
On Wednesday May 24th at approximately 8:00PM I attended the Philharmonic Orchestra the music department put on. Unfortunately, I miss places the ticket so I attached the order confirmation instead as proof that I really went. The concert took place in the Music Recital Hall and I would say it was a pretty decent turn out. The wide range of the diverse crowd seemed to enjoy the music performed before us because after the sets it seemed like some people were clapping and showing support. The audience in the concert had a wide range of ethnicity and social class. Some guests attending were friends or family of those preforming and some, like me, were there simply because it was assigned. Never-the-less, I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing what Cal Poly’s idea of a philharmonic orchestra and it motivates me to go see one at a professional level. On the crowded stage, I seemed to spot countless amounts of instruments from different families including …show more content…
Some of the songs were more fast paced then others but almost all of the songs performed started out slower more or less and increased the tempo throughout. Overall, I enjoyed the songs that were picked to be played and I thought they did a good job at the selection process. It seemed well rehearsed and I was happy I picked that performance to go see. At the end of the day, for more reasons than one I would say the concert was a success for the music department. For one, most people in the audience paid money so it was a payout in that way, and in the way that the majority of the guests were satisfied with the outcome. I enjoyed being able to recognize what I learned throughout this quarter and see it played out in a legitimate concert format. I could tell that everyone involved wanted it to go according to their plan and it

To begin my review of this concert, I would like to first briefly talk about foundation history of Boston Symphony Orchestra. This orchestra was founded in 1881 by Henry Lee Higginson. The first conductor was George Henschel who was a famous bastion as well as an orchestra conductor. He was also a close friend of famous composer, Johannes Brahms. The current conductor of the orchestra is Andris Nelsons who is also the music director-designate of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. The BSO (Boston Symphony Orchestra) plays most of its concert at Boston’s Symphony hall and in the summer, it performs at Tanglewood. I went to Boston Symphony Orchestra concert on the 7th of…

All the elements in the show went perfectly with the actors, the sets, and the lighting. The whole stage was used and the performers moved around throughout the entire stage. The pace of the production seemed to be right. I thought it might have dragged out a little but picked up in the secound act.…

Although I am beginning to appreciate classical music more, I personally enjoy music with words more than music without words. When songs have words I pay more attention trying to figure what the storyline is behind the song. I am very into music all genres such as, pop, country, rock, reggae, and so on. I am open to listening to anything new, which is why I enjoy going to different music events such as this block party. Overall, I enjoyed this performance very much and I am glad I got to see such a great band perform for free, thanks to Utica College. I wish I could have listened to more but I am glad I got to hear a few musical selections before the event was…

I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…

On Friday, Mar 30, I took part in the Cantabile Girls' Choir Concert, which was performed by Nancy Grundahl, Sandra Enstrom, Jennifer wildeson, etc. It has several parts and all the performers have done very well. The whole concert was really an enjoyment to me. All the performers concentrated on the performance. I think very highly of them.…

The same tune would get caught in your ear, then it was moving you faster or slower; as well as that tune getting louder or softer at appropriate intervals coinciding with the dramas taking place. I also noticed a few woodwind and harp solos during the brighter, happier moments of the performance. The use of castanets and tambourines also caught my eyes and ears. Of course, there was tremendous use of varying the pitch and tempo as well as how loud or soft the music was. Again this is all to enhance how the emotion was conveyed to the audience. Additionally, a piece that stuck out in my head as I left (mainly because I’ve never really noticed or caught on to it until after learning this in one of our class sections) was toward the end when a solo played for a period of time and then that instrument was joined by all the other instruments—playing the same thing—in consistent pleasing…

Each choir was singing a different piece by John Rutter. In our choir there were about 8 different choirs that came together for this. The HCCYC was the only choir that included any middle schoolers, but since I skipped first grade, I was the only eleven-year-old on the stage throughout the entire performance. The concert started at eight-o'clock that night and we were the first act. We walk out of stage and everything hits us all at once. The entire venue is absolutely gorgeous, even more so when it is filled up with people. Everyone gets into their places, and Mr. Rutter had us pull out our music, and he started the orchestra. The entire room filled with the gorgeous sounds of the brass, woodwind, strings, and the heavy pounding of the percussion. We start to sing this glorious piece, and that feeling right then is one I will never forget. We all became so overwhelmed with the beauty of the music and it was simply a night to remember. This was the largest, most intense concert I have ever performed in. I got to have such an amazing experience on stage with such an amazing group of people in such a legendary venue, and it has given a whole different perspective on what making music really…

The concert was somewhat as I expected to be. The concert was so formal and organized. . Even though I had some prejudgments about the concert at first, I enjoyed listening to these pieces live. I will try to attend future classical music concerts. There were some parts where the management team could have done better. The artist demonstrated dynamics, technique, harmony and togetherness beautifully. Before leaving the concert hall I was able to speak briefly with some of the musicians, they were very helpful in answering my questions about the…

Butterfly Dances was probably my favorite from that entire night. It is a set of variations from traditional Chinese folk songs which Root had expanded into viable melodies. It sounded to be in ABA form, but also seemed to be in symphonic form. It was very beautiful. You could hear the fluttering of butterfly wings from the wind section of the band. The last movement was more dark than the rest. It had a forte and mezzo forte dynamic, as well as there was some ritardando and crescendo in the piece. The tempo changed between vivace, allegro and andante. I really enjoyed it. Thomas Root really got way into conducting. He was jumping and flailing his arms all over, which was rather entertaining.…

For my humanities report, I attended the Wind Ensemble concert at the Timko Barton lobby on October 8, 2015. The concert was so inspiring and refreshing for me since I love music and am currently studying music. Sitting with some many people and listening to beautiful music from a variety of genres was so restoring to the soul. Dr. John Jenkins, the director, was so motivating in every piece of music and of the program. The concert program ran smoothly as the ensemble band transitioned gradually to each different song piece. In addition the scenery added to the peaceful presence during the show. Since the concert took place in the lobby of the music hall, people saw the bright lights coming from the ceiling and they also enjoyed to majestic surrounding of the large glass windows. The Wind Ensemble concert event was a smoothing time to reflect on…

Overall, I feel that attending this concert made me more aware of the diversity of style. I enjoyed the many different sounds that this orchestra performed. I also enjoyed the dramatic tension I and the vibe that was given in the pieces . But mostly what I enjoyed the most of this whole performance was the second to last piece that was played. The way that the saxophone was played opened my ears to a new sound that I never heard. For this being the first concert that I have attended I can honestly say that this was a great…
