EXTRACTION OF BIOACTIVE COMPONENTS FROM PANDAN (Pandanus amaryllifolius) STEM EXTRACT

Statement of the Problem The study aims to find out the presence of bioactive components in stem extract of Pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius) and sought to find answers for the preceding questions:
1. Do Pandan (Padanus amaryllifolius) stem extract have bioactive components?
2. What is the possible use of the bioactive components that are present in the Pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius) stem extract?
Statement of the Hypothesis
Null:
Ho.1. The Pandan stem extract do not have any bioactive components. Ho.2. The bioactive components that were found from Pandan stem extract does not have any possible usage.
Alternative:
Ha.1. The Pandan stem extract have bioactive components. Ha.2. The bioactive components that were found from Pandan stem extract have possible usage.

General Procedure Using the weighing scale. 41.3 grams of pandan stem was weighed. It was then cut into smaller pieces and was put in a flat tray. The roots were air dried in an undisturbed room temperature for five days. The dried stems were weighed again. To determine the percentage of evaporated water from the roots, the formula below is used: (mass of sample before drying) – (mass of sample after drying)
Percent of Water = ________________________________________________________________ X 100% (mass of sample before drying)
After the 41.3 grams of pandan stem have been dried, it was then weighed again. 25 grams was left after the air drying process. The dried stems were then placed in the beaker and were added with 75 ml of 95% ethyl alcohol and were soaked for a week. The solution is now ready for pythochemical screening and was sent directly to MSU-IIT, Iligan for the process.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Table 1: Percentage of water evaporated of the sample.

They are often strong smelling and thusmay have had a protective function. Terpenes and terpenoids are the primary constituents of the essential oils of many types of plants and flowers.Pandan leaves also contain volatile oil, an essential oil found in plants, whisch helps torepel vermins. One of the reasons why we did this study is to reduce the use of deet.
