Once It's States Gleitzman Analysis
First off, the book Once, shows this journey and theme through characterization. In the book Once it's states, “I can see He’s desperate the poor kid. Desperate for something to keep the Torture Squads mind off the stuffing him down the toilet.’’(Gleitzman pg 26). This explains that Felix is a really nice guy and just wants to help this poor kid out. The meaning of people need other people for survival in this quote means that this kid needs Felix for survival. From of course, keeping the Torture Squad from stuffing him down the toilet. Unfortunately that can't happen, because Felix attempts to find his parents and leave him at the orphanage all by his lonesome.

Astrid Magnussen, from Janet Fitch`s work White Oleander, is forced into foster care when her neglectful mother is taken to jail for murder. She bounces from one foster home to another, always needing but never finding. An adolescent may be aware of their dependency on others or not, however between Christopher’s disability and Astrid losing her only parental figure, that reliance is strengthened. The two grew up precociously though both react to it differently.…

    The book ‘Of Mice and Men’, written by John Steinbeck is set in the 1930’s America. This was the time of the great depression, segregation, racism and sexism. In the 1930’s unemployment was high and a lot of men had hardly any money, so they moved from town to town to find new places to work. The men never stayed in one place to form any relationships or had much financial support to have a family of their own; hence the loneliness existence. Steinbeck shaped the ranch where George and Lennie worked as an isolated and empty place.
