Once Gone By Riley Barke Quotes
Analysis of Character: Riley Paige, the main character of the thriller “Once Gone” possesses many great qualities, but also some traits that aren’t exactly positive. She is a grown adult, so her mind and decision making are that of an adult. At some points in the story, she is pathetic and indecisive. She is very reckless, trying to play the part of a hero, but it is just seen upon readers as stupid and incredibly dimwitted to do. She is introduced as a clever veteran detective who is the best in her field. She can solve most cases and her mind works extremely fast. Her mind is like a puzzle, she can piece together evidence and clues that will eventually lead to her solving the case. However, her “cleverness” throughout the story was a short fuse. After the fuse ended, Riley was just overall an …show more content…
As I have mentioned in the first paragraph, she is an, “incredibly reckless moron who likes to do her own thing. For instance, she has never, not once, called for backup when she went out of her way to find the murderer.” This is a vital thing to know, regardless of how much experience you have in the business! It’s quite baffling to see how Riley, an experience veteran, doesn’t know the basics. She prefers to do things on her own whim, risking her life and many others so, this is also another negative trait of Riley; she is selfish. Incredibly selfish. One way she is selfish is that even knowing her partner in crime, Bill is married and trying to fix his marriage, she still has the AUDACITY to call him up drunk and embarrassingly ask him to come over and hang out. Obviously, Bill was furious, which is the right response. But there’s more. Another example is how she fails to realize she is hurting her daughter and believes she is doing the right thing by hiding things from her! That is extremely selfish of Riley because her innocent daughter is hurt from this but Riley still doesn’t do a thing to fix

In the text Twenty Questions by G Lee Bowie, I chose the chapter “Why Shouldn’t I Be Selfish”? In that chapter the two selections that were chosen were The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins and The Virtue of Selfishness by Ayn Rand. The two discuss and give examples of how selfishness is simply for survival and how being selfish can benefit that individual. The term selfishness stated by Ayn Rand is defined as “concern with one’s own interest” (525). In both selections of the chapter both philosophers compared how ones selfish action is based on the question, who benefits from it? Based off of both selections “The Selfish Gene” and “The Virtue of Selfishness” it can be agreed that when one is selfish he thinks of only the benefits he gain from it and not his rival.…

Writing the sounds Malala Yousafzai heard whilst she was shot is really interesting. You can take this quote in many ways. First, she could have written it this way because she relives it when she writes. Repeating the same sound over and over represents someone being affected by a traumatic experience. Second, she is explaining that instead of thinking of her death, her body was trying to find ways to avoid shock. It’s similar to when you have a panic attack, you try and focus on one object to calm you down. So when she wrote this, she wanted the reader to imagine the butcher’s chopping rather than the gun shot because it’s what she did. Third, she wants the reader to know she was conscious then she was shot but not fully aware. Either way,…

Self-interest is when someone is trying to protect their interest, but they also take into account how it may affect others. Whereas selfishness is where one makes decisions based on one’s self with no regards to others. It’s important to decipher these two meanings when considering the competitive market and what may be appropriate for a society because if one is acting out based on self-interest, yes, they may be looking out for themselves, but they are also looking out for their customers. These are the type of people you can trust and want to invest your time and money into. People acting out of selfishness, figure out a way to get what they want and bail once they can’t make a profit anymore, leaving their customer in the dust. Also meaning, they’re going to be unreliable if and when times get tough and have no morals or obligations to the people who invest into them.…
