In recent discussion of vegetarianism, a controversial issue has been whether we should eat meat or not. On one hand, some argue that eating meat is a part of life and the only way to live. On the other hand, however, others argue that eating meat is morally wrong and we should only eat plants. According to Drew Ramsey, author of “Meat Is Brain Food” it is problematic that the “…American diet [consists] of processed foods laden with sugars, salt, and…fat” (Source A). However, eating plants exclusively is not the answer. Incorporating meat is the better option for our diet.
Becoming a vegetarian can seem like a healthy choice; however, it can also have a negative effect on your health. Nina Planck, author of “A Choice with Definite Risks” says that ‘…breast milk of vegan mothers is dramatically lower in a critical brain fat… than the milk omnivorous mothers” (Source E). With these health risks a vegetarian mother could actually harm her child. Sure eating all vegetables supposed to be healthy, but how is it so healthy if it affects your offspring’s brain in a negative way? Planck says “according to Chris Kresser, [a fellow health writer],’Studies have shown that children raised until age six on a vegan diet [have]… fluid intelligence, spatial ability and short term memory.”’ And Planck elaborates by explaining that “the formerly vegan kids scored lower than omnivorous kids every time” (Source E). vegan children are scoring lower on tests is because they could be missing out on a vitamin called B12. B12 is a vital nutrient for your mental health, and we should not limit children’s essential nutrient intake. Vegetarianism also raises issues when it comes to mental endurance. Brian Patton, author of “We Are Not Grizzly Bears” states “…transitioning to a vegan diet is [hard] work. Not because its unnatural, but because we’ve been taught differently our entire lives” (Source D). it is hard to stop old habits. How can you live one way every day of your life and one

    Industrial farmers appear to be more concerned with massive profit margins, than they do with producing quality food in providing meat and vegetables: “The cruelty of the factory farms—the cages are small, the slaughter is violent” (Foer 67).
