On a scale of one to five I would rate the film the omen (1976) four stars. I feel that the film is an excellent horror film and is very true to the horror genre. The film has all of the makings of a classic film and has had much success in the horror genre. The purpose of horror films is to elicit negative reactions from the films audience. The film the Omen does just this with its plot, editing, acting, and music.

The film was typical of a horror film and followed the typical layout of this type of movie. The movie deals with themes that are of supernatural nature and has deep religious connotations. The film uses religion and the concept of inherent evil as a way to provoke negative feelings from the audience. The supernatural film became popular in the 1970’s genre and this film followed suit with the context of Damien being the antichrist.

The basis for the film The Omen (1976) begins with the father a wealthy politician standing in a hospital awaiting the birth of his child. The child dies and the priest offers him an opportunity to take a child who was born at the same time and has been orphaned. For several years the family lives happily and well. During the fifth birthday party of the child, Damien, the nanny jumps from the roof of the families home and hangs herself shouting “ It’s all for you Damien”. Following her death a new nanny appears and Damien’s personality changes. He begins acting different and begins to exhibit strange behavior. During this time the priest speaks to the father and alerts him of the fact that Damien is the antichrist and must be killed. The film goes on the show the father discovering many facts that lead him to believe that what the priest is saying is true. From the beginning to the end of the film all of the seemingly outlandish and strange acts prove to be true and each discovery...
