Everyone Need More Sleep!!

Group members:

Instructor: CROFT, ADELLA S

Summary

A lot of students always complain that they have so many works to do and it makes them cannot have enough time to sleep. We also face to the same problem so we try to have a survey to find the relationship between sleep time and GPA. We make an online Survey to search people' sleep time and their GPA.

Data collection
We make a data collection from the online Survey. And this collection is from about 50 people.(The following is our chart)

Because the purpose of our survey is to prove there are some relationships between the sleeping time and GPA. So we use the sampling survey to find it. Next we will try to use the survey we made in the internet to find the sleep time is positive correlation to your GPA.
The questions we ask are:

1. How long you usually sleep every day?
2. When you usually go to sleep?
3. Do you mind to tell us your GPA?

Hypothesis

Student's sleeping time impact on student' GPA. If student can have a good and enough sleep time, their GPA will be higher.

From this form we can know the mode of the sleep hours is 7 hours. In general, it shows that the relationship between sleep hours and GPA are positive correlation. But from our survey we found that only the students who sleep between 4-9 hours have positive correlation with GPA, but sleep more than 9 hours have the negative correlation with GPA. Therefore we make another form to further investigation into the students who sleep more than 9 hours.

New Hypothesis

The students who sleep between 4-9 hours have positive correlation with GPA, but sleep more than 9 hours have negative correlation with GPA. We do another survey for more students who sleep more than 9 hours, and we add 6 more data in our basic data.

Based on our new data we make a new form for new Average GPA.

    The research question that I will be investigating is: how do the demands of the college workload affect the sleeping habits of college students? I chose this topic because I feel like it has a direct correlation to my personal experiences, as well as those of my fellow classmates.     With or without the average amount of sleep needed, it plays a crucial piece in a person’s daily life, impacting their performance and deciding their sleep rhythm. This can be seen in the book, Encyclopedia of Sleep and Dreaming, where it begins to explain how the effects of a full night’s sleep and an all nighter would help a student perform differently; while studying all night is good for immediate memory, those memories would soon be forgotten.
