1-25-14 EH 101 Helpful or Harmful? What would you choose to be the worst mistake in history? There are many different thing you could pick from. Some might say slavery and some might say going into space. According to Jared Diamond in his literary article, “The Worst Mistake in History of the Human Race”, the worst mistake was the adoption of agriculture. The title he gives his work helps you really weigh out the pros and cons of agriculture. It lets you know that this mistake that occurred was no one’s fault but our own. Every action has a reaction and no one knew what that would be. “Why did the hunter and gathers switch to agriculture?” Hunting and gathering food was much healthier for the body than agriculture. Diamond

Jared Diamond’s two most persuasive statements are that Hunter-gatherers were much healthier than those who practiced early agriculture and that there was less social conflict before the Neolithic Revolution. For example, hunter-gatherers had a longer life span, larger average height in both genders, as well as more varied and nutritional food. This is important because our health as a species had taken a dip, and even though it is slowly being built up again (in some areas), the nutrition intake of hunter-gatherers was significantly more beneficial. Next, evidence of more issues in society in the post-agricultural communities include that of a social class division along with more frequent pregnancies (which has led to more fatalities). The…

Arguably the most revolutionary decision America has ever made: Reconstruction. Reconstruction was the process of freeing black slaves and “rebuilding America”. It was doomed from the start, but who destroyed it? That’s a difficult question, as it could easily be the South or the North that doomed black people for nearly 100 years. The Southerners resisted Reconstruction a lot; the Klu Klux Klan was formed [and still exists today], political cartoons showed people who supported Reconstruction as stupid or evil, and they created the Compromise of 1877. It could also be the North, because after a while they just stopped caring. Although they had won the war and had control over the South, it became a lot of effort and work to try to free the blacks and undo the damage. Personally, I think that Northern neglect is what truly put an end to Reconstruction.…

We learn from our mistakes by not repeating them to provide a brighter future. When the atomic bomb went off in Hiroshima, the people in Japan knew they never wanted that to happen again. This is true when “[f]ive thousand delegates attended the first world conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs” ( Hersey 147 ). They all realized that did not help and the only way that it could be considered good was that it ended the war. Hopefully it would never happen again unless it was a necessity. That is relevant because it is very important, especially…

I believe that the biggest problem that faces our country today, is the use of the electoral college system. The electoral college system was originally put in place, because the founding fathers did not believe that the uneducated general public, had the ability to make the choice of president. But know a days, most of the people that vote are educated unto at least a high school diploma, which in my opinion takes away the need for an electoral college system.…

The problem I selected is the living conditions in America during the industrial revolution. This was a problem in American that began when Americans began to create these companies a long time ago. Things started to get bad as people like John Rockefeller; and other big business owners that began to take over every type of business, from oil, to railroad, and to clothes. These businesses began to rise over competition and become huge corporations. One thing these businesses needed was more workers because the need for more product. So these tycoons called the jobs of the working pool of America.…

Therefore, one of Hitler’s greatest mistakes in its conquest was that it had attacked Russia with the state in mind that it does not need to face it with a superior concept because he expected that the Russian Army would disintegrate after certain battles. Furthermore, it made the mistake of not accounting its capability and simply relied on the idea that its opponent will soon make a mistake and fail.…

The worst type of man-made disaster is caused by the use of nuclear weapons. If we go back to the history of 1945, we come to know the history of 1945; we come to know the worst type of nuclear disaster the world had witnessed.
