Loneliness in “Of Mice and Men.”
In the book of John Steinbeck the seam of loneliness is touched. In “Of Mice and
Men” by John Steinbeck describes different way’s who people can be lonely. The characters are :Lennie-he is not smart, Candy- he have only one hand, and he can do only simple work, Crooks- he is a black man who is working on the farm,
Curley’s wife- her husband doesn’t let her to speak with other men on the farm.
Through Curley’s wife, John Steinbeck shows that lonely people do things that they won’t do if they wasn’t lonely. Curley’s wife always trying to find reason to talk to other guys. One day all men except Candy, Crooks and Lennie were gone in the town. Curley’s wife come to the burn and said that she was looking for Curley. She treys to talk to other men even if she doesn’t like them. She tells them that she feels lonely, and she likes to talk to other people:”Think I don’t like to talk to somebody ever’ once in a while? Think I like to stick in that house alla time?” she don’t care with hum to talk. She wants attention to herself.
Later in the book when she speaks with Lennie in the barn, she says to Lennie that she doesn’t like her husband. She is angry when Lennie said that he can’t speak to her. She says that she want to talk to people except her husband. “I get lonely,” she said.”You can talk to people but I can’t talk to nobody but Curley. Else he get mad.” She thinks that Lennie nuts, but she steel talk to him. Steinbeck shows that Curley’s wife is a lonely person. If she could talk to other people she won’t talk to people that she
doesn’t
