Odysseus: A Hero In The Odyssey By Homer
What do you consider to be a hero? What traits should a hero have? My hero is Odysseus. In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus proves to be a true epic hero through his intelligence, bravery, and loyalty.

One way that Odysseus uses his intelligence is to help his men. For instance, He puts beeswax in all of his crew's ears when passing the Sirens. The epic states "Going forward I carried wax along the line, and laid it thick on their ears” (Homer 706). This helps them get past the Sirens successfully. Also, his intelligence helps him handle difficult situations. Like when they are in the Land of the Lotus Eaters, he only sends out three of his men so that everybody wouldn't eat the flower. In his story, Odysseus says "Then I sent out two picked

How does one change from a narcissistic creature to one that is patient and caring? That is a question we must ponder as we dwell into the mind of Odysseus, the hero of the epic, the Odyssey. Odysseus is a king lost for twenty years after the Trojan War, used to putting up a fight when it comes to surviving a new land. Imposing his authority over his crew, Odysseus demands “I alone should listen to their song... We must obey the orders as I give them” (lines 727-780). This shows how Odysseus uses his power to manipulate his shipmates into supporting his selfish decisions. After more ill-advised decisions that end up killing all of his shipmates, Odysseus is proclaimed to be a “patient hero” (lines 1328-1331). A fantastic example of dramatic…

In the book, The Odyssey, written by Homer, the main character, Odysseus, had won the Trojan war and had a long journey back home. In the beginning of the journey, he has a few ships and a bunch of crew members with him. His goal was to make it back to his homeland of Ithaca to see his wife and son again. However, this journey took much longer than expected because of Odysseus’ choices. His choices proved to show that he is very selfish. To add on, Odysseus took advantage of his crew members throughout the book many times. And he also, surprisingly, almost didn't make it back home to Ithaca. Because of these reasons, and…

In almost all of the stories that have been written, there is a journey that the character undertakes to become whole and balanced, also known as the heroic journey. In the first stage of the journey, the departure, the hero leaves their known world and begins their adventure. After the hero undergoes the departure, they then move on to the next stage, the initiation, where they are put through tests and venture into the world of hero or magic or the previously unknown. The third and final stage is that of the return, where the hero must return back to his home.
