One trait that Odysseus has is being a great leader. One way that he is a great leader is because he had won the war against the Trojans. The way he won was that he had a brilliant idea of making a Trojan horse. The reason he made a Trojan horse is so he can hide inside of it and attack the Trojan. Another reason why Odysseus is a great leader is because he had helped his crew through many obstacles. Everyone has different personality traits. Odysseus has both hero qualities and not so heroic qualities. This epic poem is called “The Odyssey”. It was written by Homer, an ancient Greek poet. Epic hero qualities are traits the hero character of a story has. They include strength, loyalty, intelligence, and courage. One would think Odysseus has many epic hero traits, but he also has many traits that are not heroic. There are many examples of his heroic qualities. Something that shows loyalty is when he says, “So we moved out, sad in the vast offing, having our precious lives, but not our friends.” This shows that Odysseus is loyal because talking about not having his friends anymore and being with his men. He also has strength. “I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under the rowing benches…” shows this because it takes strength to tie three men down to a ship. When he shows courage, he says “We beached there, and I told the crew to stand by and keep watch over the ship: as for myself I took my twelve best men and went ahead.” in which one would notice Odysseus had the courage to go see who the enormous man was when he reached Cyclops Island and told his men to watch the ship for him.…

Another characteristic that the movie did a good job bringing out of Odysseus' character was his ruthlessness in doing whatever he has to to get where he wanted to go. We find out that Everett never actually had a treasure to go find. He just told Pete and Delmar what they wanted to hear and whatever he needed to to get them to commit to escaping with him. He knew how to manipulate the two in a way that would inspire them to help him (because they think they are helping themselves). This is similar to Odysseus' and Athena's manipulation of Nausicaa.…

Odysseus was a very effective leader. The first example was when Odysseus devised a quick, and cunning plan in the midst of chaos during their imprisonment in Polyphemus’ cave. A leader’s great leadership is the key to success. When Odysseus commanded the men to do as his plan follows, they listened, which resulted in their success in escaping the cave. Odysseus was an effective leader because he was cunning. Another example was when the crew were travelling in the Straits of Scylla and Charybdis. When they were inside the strait, the whole crew were alerted when one of their crew members were eaten by Scylla. In this panicking situation , Odysseus remained calm and told them to row back out, and to remain calm. The crew were sparkled with…

These flaws include the fact that he loses his men and the fact that he boasts about himself and commits blasphemy toward Poseidon when he says, "I am sure that even great Poseidon will never give you back the eye you lost" (Odyssey, Book IX, page 185). Nevertheless, this does nothing but adds to the idea of Odysseus being the ideal hero in the ancient Greek society. He is a mortal hero, a human, and humans have flaws. This again goes back to where we talk about the transition in the Greek society. The Greeks now embrace their mortality, they are not afraid of it. Even with his flaws, Odysseus achieves his goals and he is definitely the ideal hero for many generations to follow. The people can look to Odysseus as being a hero that they can relate to; unlike the previous perfect and unrealistic heroes, such as Hercules, that could only be…

Also, we see Odysseus various times in the Odyssey making his way through the most difficult situations by using his wits and cleverness.…

To start, Odysseus was developed with standard Greek heroic traits. First, Odysseus was courageous in the face of opposition, as shown by his encounter with Charybdis and Scylla. The protagonist of The Odyssey commanded his crew to row onwards in the face of the monsters, showing his courage. He was also intelligent, as he devised a plan to escape the wrath of Polyphemus. Odysseus made the Cyclops drunk with his liquor before blinding him and allowing his crew to escape on the underside of the sheep of the island. Finally, the main hero of the story was perseverant, as illustrated when he left Ogygia, battled Poseidon’s storms, and made it to King Alcinous’s island.…

This is understandable, through reasoning that Odysseus displays leadership. However, Odysseus is anything a leader, and as a result is not a hero. Odysseus is not a good leader, given that his entire trip relied on help from the gods. The plan for Odysseus to return to Ithaca and save his family from the suitors was completely pioneered by Athena. Without the guidance of Athena specifically, as well as a handful of others, Odysseus would never have been able to return to Ithaca, let alone leave the captivity of Calypso. Therefore, Odysseus is more unheroic than not.…
