Scholarship Committee:
The value of education is something that my single mother has made me understand since a very young age. My mother, my hero, never had an opportunity to attend college, and faced many struggles in her professional life including working three part time jobs most of her life. This is why I want an education to fulfill my purpose of professionally helping others.
Because of her love and sacrifice over the years, and even though I have struggled academically in my early years, seeing her dedication has changed my outlook. My last two years of high school, my grades have continuously improved to honor status. My efforts are evidence that no matter what the obstacle, anyone can accomplish a goal through hard work and commitment.
Additionally, I have also been active in my school and community outside of the classroom, serving as a dance team leader for two years, serving as a committed leader in the Future Business Leaders of America, serving as a dedicated member in the DECA, Inc., and volunteering to assist children with disabilities and serving the homeless during school breaks.

My mother has made many sacrifices in hopes that I would pursue higher education. Pursuing a career through education is my dream too. I now have an opportunity to become the first person in my family to attend college, though I am in need of financial assistance to realize what has been a long-term goal for me and a dream for my mother.

I will continue to apply the same diligence to my collegiate studies as I have to this point, making education and service to others my top priority. I will represent your organization well during my years in college and beyond. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Amber Brunson

I am involved. I have been dancing for fourteen years now, playing the piano for thirteen years, and running track for almost six years. Not to mention, I have managed to hold three jobs now and, I have donated the remainder of my free time to community service. Perhaps to say that I am involved is an understatement- I am totally involved! Nonetheless, I don’t think I would be nearly as well-rounded as I would be without four vital virtues: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. I believe these four virtues have truly morphed me into the well-rounded individual I am today.…

December 2, 2012 Why College Education Is Important To Me “In our modem society employers are looking for people who have the most to offer and this is why a higher education is more valuable than gold” (Torres 2012). This quotation is why college education is important to me because it is the key to opening doors to better career opportunities and higher earnings. I want to better my life and make my daughters proud of me. “They are my inspiration to go back to school” (Guthrie, 2011). I believe that if my children see me working hard on my education, that will be motive for them to do the same and reach all their goals and succeed in their lives. In other words, the benefits of education are endless.…

I’m involved, and have leadership roles, in many clubs and service organizations within my school, but you can simply see that on my resume. These clubs have an enormous impact on the community and have definitely contributed to helping me become a leader, but, again, you can see that on my resume. What you can not see on my resume is the profound impact dance has had on not only me as a leader but my life as a whole. I started dancing when I was 3 years old and 14 years later I’m still dancing. Spending 12 of those years at the same dance studio, Dancentre South, has allowed me to not only influence my dance studio but the community it creates and is surrounded by. I started assisting and demonstrating for dance classes when I was 12, this class started my career of not only helping my fellow dancers succeed but creating my…

While at Annville Cleona High School, I participated in many clubs and activities both in and out of school. I busied myself outside of school through my job and by completing many hours of community service. For my job, I work at a local movie theater as a crew member and have recently been awarded as employee of the month for August. This position has helped me step out of the realm of Annville by making friends with employees from out of town and also improve my communication and develop customer service skills. As for my service hours, I have volunteered at numerous locations including but not limited to the Ronald McDonald House, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, A Tail to Tell Puppy Mill Rescue, and YMCA’s Camp Shand. During my time at these places, I was able to interact and brighten the days of sickly children, act as a…

The University of There are so many opportunities here to join amazing organizations and become part of something that is bigger than oneself. Next semester, I have quite a few organizations and events that I am planning to be a part of. First of all, the big event for Dance Marathon is on February 3rd and 4th. The big event is when students all come together for 24 hours to celebrate all of the fundraising and the hard work they have done all year, and besides that, they come together to celebrate the children who have survived cancer and to mourn the ones who have not. Within this 24-hour event, dancers are not allowed to sit or have any caffeine. Dancers are there to dance for those who cannot. The second organized that I am going to be a part of next semester is the University of Iowa’s Mobile Clinic. The Mobile Clinic is a year round clinic that travels around the surrounding areas of Iowa City to provide free health care to those who otherwise may just go without. I will be a volunteer at the clinic and will be there to help take vitals and check people into the clinic. This opportunity is amazing as I will be helping those who truly need it and cherish what we are doing. The third thing that I plan to do next semester is to volunteer at the University of…

What do you think was the reason that you had a successful semester? Started the school year fall of 2013-14 at Westchester Community College ready and full of excitement. I’m an aspiring nursing student so getting all A’s and B’s were at the top of my game plan as far as my grades were concerned. So I met with an advisor to help me decide what classes to take and what classes are best to take together. I had taken many of my prerequisite already so my advisor, whom I put my faith in to have my best interest at heart put these classes together for me- chemistry 113 with a lab, nutrition 109, anatomy and physiology I with a lab, and a cpr class. Now I don’t believe that my advisor was intentionally trying to sabotage me. I just think maybe they didn’t understand the scope of work involved.…

“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” By Carl Sagan. I want to be that known person, I want to be heard and I want to be successful and I will. All my life I have dedicated my time to succeed in school and make everybody proud. The most important person by having them proud of my achievements is my mom and I. All through elementary school, junior high, and just one more year of high school I have received many awards and always the best grades I could get. Making me and my mom happy and proud is truly one of the best achievements I have accomplished. My mom has always been there for me and always supports my decisions no matter what; she’s a single mom raising three kids on her own, putting food on the table and a roof over our head. I believe God blessed me with a great mom, I’m only seventeen years old with no job but I thank her for everything she does by helping around the house and taking care of the kids while I’m still maintaining excellent grades. She goes to school and goes to work and by me helping her with the house and the kids bring her a great deal of joy, but what really makes her day are my school achievements. I bring home good report cards, getting a gold card for having a 3.5 or higher GPA and being involved in the school, like sports, clubs, and leadership. Her knowing that I’m doing my best in school and being proud of me motivates me to keep doing what I’m doing.…

Our Mission, Our Philosophy (Summary Paper 1) Education has always been of great importance to me for several reasons. One reason is that I watched my parents struggle, working hard physical labor throughout their life to pay the household bills. I knew if they would of had a higher education, it would have been easier. My parents never even completed elementary school. My father almost completed 3rd grade and my mother completed 4th grade. The importance of education was driven into me and my other siblings, by our parents. One day after arriving home from high school, my younger sister, Rosie told me, "Sis, we need a school here for the gifted." We did not give the idea much thought than, but later on it became more of a serious discussion.…
