Red herrings are clues meant to mislead the reader and obscure the true answer to the puzzle. You know, when all the evidence seems to lead to fact that the butler did it, but the perceptive and effective detective sees through the flimsy device and realizes that the real murderer was really the supposedly-crippled shopkeeper! Or the jilted fiancee! Or someone's secret twin! Or just whomever!!! The important thing here is that the goal of the red herring is to cause misdirection. Classic examples include Mr. Barrymore in a book about a dogged deerstalkered detective or communism in the greatest of board-game-based films.…

There’s a freshman in one of my classes who always wears thick, dark eyeliner and other excessive makeup. For a couple of days the other week, she stopped. The first time I saw her without makeup, it was weird; I had never seen her without it before. A few days later, she came back with eyeliner and a fresh layer of foundation on her face. I remembered the face I saw just the day before; even though the makeup was pretty, she was pretty without all the extra effects. That same day during class she told me about how there was a guy snapchatting her. They made a bet that she wouldn’t be able to go without makeup for two days. She continued to tell me how that morning, she put on her makeup and sent him a snapchat. He responded…

Rednecks are often misunderstood. When a typical person thinks of the word “redneck,” most of them often associate this type of person as loud, hot-headed, violent, undereducated, racist and poor. People also associate rednecks with outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping and riding atv’s or dirt bikes. (Flora 1) Rednecks, most of the time, are associated with the confederate flag as well. They are also perceived to be rude. A term often used to define rednecks is “white trash,” meaning “poor white people, especially those living in the southern US (White 1).” What people don’t realize is that rednecks are also associated with intelligence and respect. They are loving, caring and are proud to be themselves. Rednecks all share the same love for cowboy boots, old jeans, pickup trucks, mud and learning lessons from their parents. This does not make rednecks “white trash.” This makes them general people, which is often overlooked.…

For example, I plan on majoring in culinary arts, and while it might seem funny for a person with a sever case of ADHD to be making your food properly, I find that this is the one area where I am able to excel beyond expectations. The art of cuisine is one that relaxes me and calms me down to the point where I can dedicate my full attention span to one specific topic for a mass period of time. From early on in my life, I have had an undenying interest in food culture inspired from my parents creating outstanding dishes with unfamiliar names. We would sometimes go out to fancy restaurants for dinner and specifically order outlandish meals and then see which one of us could best replicate the dish the next day for dinner. The first time I won the game with my parents, I flawlessly replicated a popular Australian Beuschl dish, (pig liver and kidney) which I was given much praise for by my parents. From that day forward I have realized the…
